The Strategic Estates team plays a vital role in preserving and enhancing the historic Parliamentary Estate, ensuring it remains fit for purpose for current and future generations. As custodians of a UNESCO World Heritage site, the team delivers high-quality, professional services to both the House of Commons and House of Lords. Working in a complex and high-profile environment, Strategic Estates combines conservation with innovation to deliver a wide range of refurbishment and construction projects that support the work of Parliament.
The Role
As an
Assistant Project Leader
, you will be responsible for managing individual projects or workstreams valued between 50,000 and 2.5 million, contributing to the successful delivery of the Parliamentary Estate's capital investment programme. You will work closely with project stakeholders across both Houses, consultants, and contractors, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Some of the responsibilities for this role include:
Leading or supporting the delivery of refurbishment and construction projects from inception to completion
Developing project plans and timelines, communicating changes to stakeholders, and maintaining accurate records using project management systems
Procuring and managing external consultants and contractors in accordance with House procedures
Preparing business cases, performance reports, and change control documents to secure and manage project funding
Ensuring compliance with regulations, sustainability standards, and Parliamentary Technical Standards
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
Knowledge of how construction, refurbishment, or conservation projects are delivered, including procurement processes and risk management
Strong financial and budget management skills, including an understanding of change control
Excellent organisational and planning skills, including managing permits and sensitive documentation
The ability to communicate clearly and confidently with a variety of audiences, adapting your style as needed
A collaborative approach with a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and professional excellence
