Assistant Project Manager

This role provides essential support to the Property Project Manager in the delivery of a variety of Station Improvement projects, ensuring alignment with the strategic objectives set out in the WMT business plan. The postholder will be expected to work both independently and collaboratively to effectively communicate and realise the vision for project delivery.


The successful candidate will assist in the coordination and allocation of resources across the Property Department's project portfolio, while managing a number of smaller projects with responsibility for safety, quality, cost, and timely completion. The role also includes deputising for the Property Project Manager as required.





What does the job involve?




Support the delivery of property projects in line with strategic goals and budgets. Assist in communicating project vision and contributing to complex infrastructure initiatives. Support contract negotiations, feasibility studies, and option appraisals. Maintain project documentation, schedules, and resource plans. Contribute to cost planning, risk management, and quality assurance. Assist in preparing project plans and supporting governance structures. Support audits, monitoring, and control activities throughout the project lifecycle.

What skills and experience do I need to do the job?




Postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant field (e.g. Engineering, Architecture, Project Management, Business). Knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and NEC3/NEC4 contracts. Strong stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and influencing skills. Experience in infrastructure projects and working within multidisciplinary teams. Skilled in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and Visio. Proactive, professional, and collaborative approach. Experience in contract procurement and project scheduling, including resource planning.
