About the role




The Estates and Capital Projects department at the British Museum is hiring an

Assistant Project Manager

to support work on a range of transformational building projects.


These projects range from refurbishment to large-scale construction projects, typically between 25k - 5m gross with occasional involvement in larger schemes. The type of projects varies from infrastructure projects to public facing gallery developments. They generally involve significant internal and external stakeholder management.


The role will be part of a team making sure all work is carried out efficiently to the required quality, time, and budget constraints and in accordance with legal and statutory requirements. This role is ideal for those looking to strengthen/develop their project management skills in a construction/heritage environment.




About you




Strong organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement. Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable working with spreadsheets and financial systems. Interest in developing project management skills within a construction or heritage setting. Knowledge of health and safety practices and willingness to learn Museum processes. A proactive team player with a problem-solving approach.





Key areas of responsibility




Support Client Project Managers and Programme Managers in delivering capital projects across the Museum's estate. Assist with project planning, documentation and coordination of site activities. Manage project information, including reports, records and version control. Coordinate meetings, agendas, minutes, and follow-up actions. Support procurement processes, including tender documentation and evaluation. Monitor project finances, prepare purchase orders, and maintain cost reports. Ensure compliance with health and safety standards, statutory requirements, and Museum policies.
