The Buckinghamshire Adult Autism Diagnostic & Intervention Service and Bucks Adult ADHD Service are seeking an enthusiastic psychology graduate for a part-time (2.5 days/ 18.75 hours ), 18-month fixed-term contract Assistant Psychologist based at the Whiteleaf Centre in Aylesbury . You will work across both adult services.



Ideally, you will have experience of working with individuals with Autism and/or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.



You will have the opportunity to contribute to diagnostic assessments using NICE-compliant structured assessment tools and procedures. Training and supervision will be provided, in line with the role. We are looking for applicants who have a genuine desire to positively contribute to the clinical care of people pursuing an autism diagnostic assessment or ADHD diagnosis.



You will also be involved in assisting clinicians to run post-diagnostic groups for patients who receive a diagnosis of autism within our service and therapy groups for people diagnosed with ADHD within our service.

To participate in adult diagnostic assessments for patients referred to the Bucks Adult Autism Diagnostic and Intervention Service and Bucks Adult ADHD service by:



Conduct and score screening assessments, including standardised tools like the ADI-r, under supervision, and produce structured reports for each assessment.



Support clinicians with patient recruitment and assist in co-facilitating psychoeducation and therapy groups for individuals diagnosed with autism or ADHD.



Gather and manage outcome and patient experience data, contributing to service evaluation and improvement.



Participate in clinics and clinical meetings, presenting assessment findings and contributing to multidisciplinary discussions.



Assist with administrative, data entry, and audit tasks, including reviewing referrals, updating electronic records (Rio), and supporting teaching and project work

The Bucks Autism team and ADHD team are experienced, enthusiastic and supportive. The work is multidisciplinary and psychological ways of working are encouraged and appreciated. The role of the Assistant Psychologist is to be a key team member in the diagnostic clinics, in recruiting for and co-facilitating the psychoeducation groups, and supporting and collecting outcome data and patient experience data.



The post is based at the Whiteleaf Centre in Aylesbury, with the possibility of some work being at Saffron House in High Wycombe. Office hours are 9:00am-5:00pm, but we are open to considering flexible working requests that help staff and the service operate most effectively.



You'll be asked to complete a written task as part of the interview process, this will be focused around your ability to problem solve and your keen attention to detail. This will be sent to you the morning of the 17th September 2025 and should be returned to us by midday that day.



Duties include supporting clinicians to assess and diagnose autism (in adults without a learning disability), primarily by obtaining a developmental history with a parent or other family member through administering the ADI-r (standardised diagnostic tool). All work is carried out under the supervision of a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist. The candidate will be required to attend clinical meetings to provide feedback and produce written reports following assessments.



The teams consist of qualified and experienced staff in the disciplines of psychology, psychiatry, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, mental health pharmacy, and mental health nursing. We undertake regular supervision, CPD and discussion, and have good links to the Oxford Clinical Psychology training course.
