Job Description

The Role



We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team based in Northfield, Birmingham.



As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will provide commercial support to senior surveying staff on one or a number of projects to ensure that projects are procured, delivered within budget and to the highest quality whilst exceeding our customers' expectations.



An Assistant Quantity Surveyor will provided with training and full support, including support perusing academic qualification and/or through the allocation of an experienced mentor to support the development journey.



This is a full time permanent role working Monday to Friday, free onsite parking.

The Customer



You will be part of one of Fortem's largest Social Housing contracts, Birmingham City Council. This is an expanding 50m Repairs & Maintenance, Capital Works and Retrofit contract and the largest social housing contract in Europe.


We are responsible for over 22,500 properties in the Birmingham area including low, medium and a significant number of high-rise blocks. This is a fast paced, focused and dedicated contract which we have been re-awarded 3 times and we are very proud to be able to support this exceptional client.

Duties & Responsibilities



Assistant Quantity Surveyor duties and responsibilities will include the following:


Ensure the company secures its full entitlement within the parameters of the Contract

Input of timely and accurate information, including direct operative and subcontractor/supplier information and the application of the schedule of rates

Cost allocation of purchase orders and invoices including checking against order values

Monitoring and analysis of management information relating to material and subcontractor spend

Supporting the SQS in the preparation and timely reporting of information including: Cost Value Reconciliations (CVR), Cost Value Comparison (CVC) and management accounts, providing governance of budgets through robust cost control

Onboarding suppliers, this will include overseeing subcontractor order compliance

Maintain a high quality telephone manner

Provide direct support to the commercial management function

What You Will Need



Essential criteria:


Excellent numeracy and organisation skill

Use data interrogation skills

Excellent IT knowledge including a high level of Excel skills (incl. V-Lookup, Pivot tables and formula development)

Basic contractual awareness

Negotiating and communication skills


Desired criteria:


Knowledge of NHF SOR codes

Re measurement skills

Commercial contractor exposure

Previous social housing repairs, refurbishment experience
