Job Summary
We are looking for an organised and motivated Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial management of our street lighting projects. Your role will include day-to-day contract administration, preparing billing, raising and tracking compensation events, and assisting with measurement, take-offs, and obtaining supplier quotations where required. You will gradually take ownership of commercial duties across your own projects as you develop.
This role suits someone with 1-3 years' experience in construction, civils, or street lighting who wants real hands-on responsibility and progression.
Duties
Assist in the commercial management of projects
Complete measurements and take-offs from drawings to support valuations and pricing
Prepare and submit monthly billing, applications for payment, and supporting evidence
Raise, track, and manage Compensation Events and Early Warnings under NEC contracts
Support procurement by obtaining material and subcontract quotations and preparing comparisons
Maintain accurate commercial records, variation logs, and contract documentation
Liaise with site supervisors to verify completed works and gather relevant information
Attend site when required for pre-start meetings or to support discussions with the client or site teams about the planned works
Communicate with clients and supply chain to ensure smooth commercial administration
Take ownership of smaller projects or packages as experience grows gradually taking responsibility for managing your own projects commercially, with support and guidance from the Senior QS where required
Experience
1-3 years' experience in a Quantity Surveying role within construction, civils, street lighting, or a related field
Understanding of basic QS principles including measurement, valuations, and variation management
Experience working with or around NEC contracts (preferred, but training and assistance can be provided)
Ability to read and interpret drawings for take-offs
Competent using Excel and other digital reporting tools
Experience liaising with site teams, clients, or suppliers in a commercial or technical capacity
Strong organisational skills with good attention to detail
Good communication skills, both written and verbal
Willingness to learn, take direction, and develop into managing your own projects
Full UK driving licence required

Salary: 30,000 - 35,000 depending on experience (will increase with progression)
