Part-time, 3 to 4 days a week, will include alternate weekends, additional hours may be required to cover holidays

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic retailer with excellent customer service skills to become the Assistant Shop Manager for Veterans at Ease's Whitley Bay shop.

As Assistant Shop Manager, you support the Manager who is responsible for the management and successful delivery of a customer-focussed shop team that is the "window of Veterans at Ease" on the high street.

The post holder will be responsible for helping achieve store profits and targets. When the Shop Manager is not available, you will support our volunteer staff so they can assist you in providing an excellent customer experience. Together, you will maintain a well merchandised shop that pushes the boundaries and maintains the Veterans at Ease's image and reputation.

Operational tasks will include: opening and closing the shop, handling cash, dealing with customers, managing volunteers, sorting donated stock, hanging tagging and steaming clothes.

About Veterans at Ease's Retail Enterprise

Veterans at Ease Retail Enterprise was formed in 2017 to work alongside the leading Military Mental Health Charity - Veterans at Ease. Its main aims are to:

a) Provide a regular, sustainable income for the charity Veterans at Ease so that it can continue to provide neurolinguistic psychotherapy to its beneficiaries.

b) Provide a location for veterans and family members to volunteer - especially, but not exclusively, those who have been supported by Veterans at Ease and are looking for an opportunity to gain confidence, self-esteem and skills.

c) Provide an opportunity for employment - especially, but not exclusively, for those volunteers looking for paid employment.

d) Provide an informal drop-in seating area within each establishment where veterans and family members can "pull up a sandbag", read about the organisation and ask questions about the services provided.

About the person

You will have the following skills and experience:

At least two years' experience working as an Assistant Manager in a charity shop

Able to work weekends and public holidays

Willingness to create posts on the shop's social media (primarily Facebook) on a daily basis

Able to work additional hours as necessary, especially to cover holidays and sickness

Ability to lift and carry bags and boxes full of donated stock, including clothes and books, and light furniture

A willingness to learn processes and procedures and grow within the organisation

Trustworthy with the handling of cash and goods

About the Shareholder Charity

Veterans at Ease aims to relieve the mental and physical sickness of military and civil emergency veterans and their families through the provision of support, counselling and other activities; throughout the United Kingdom.

The organisation achieves this by providing bespoke one-to-one neurolinguistic psychotherapy to serving military personnel, reservists and veterans to help them overcome PTSD and other combat-related mental health issues.

Established in 2010, Veterans at Ease is a UK-registered charity (1140832), a member of COBSEO and the proud recipient of The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service.
