About us;

Forces Support is a UK Bereavement and Veterans charity.

The objectives of the charity are:

(1) To provide support to the families and dependants of service personnel who have lost their lives whilst serving in the British Armed Forces

(2) To support ex-service personnel, their families and dependants who are in need through financial hardship by assisting in conjunction with our veteran partners the provision of housing and other forms of charitable support.

Position: Assistant Store Manager, Part-Time



Key Responsibilities

- The post holder is responsible for assisting the Store Manager to maximise shop sales and profitability. To achieve this the Assistant Store Manager should support the management of other staff, volunteers, premises and stock to provide a high standard retail environment. The Assistant Store Manager should assume full responsibility for the shop in the absence of the Manager.

Sales



To support the Store Manager to maximise shop income and minimise shops costs and expenditure. Ensure that the highest level of customer service as expected by all at Forces Support is delivered at all times. Use all potential resources available to ensure that the product categories are effectively balanced to drive the income of each location. Implement promotions in the shop as directed by the Store Manager/Area Manager or Head Office. Actively support any fundraising events locally or nationally as requested. Shop Appearance Maintain a high standard in terms of presentation in both the windows and interior of the shop. Ensure that the layout of the shop is as directed by the Store Manager and is effective in terms of product mix to drive performance. Achieve and maintain high standards of housekeeping ensuring that the shop is clean and tidy at all times in a presentable manner.

Stock



Actively encourage the public to donate saleable stock through stock generation. Assist with the management of the Gift Aid process, and all associated processes. Achieve an acceptable level of Gift Aid conversion as directed by the Store Manager and Head Office. Ensure a sufficient stock replenishment system to the shop floor, to ensure effective productivity and that there are adequate levels to maintain density. Select and price stock at a consistent level in accordance with both location and guidance from the Store Manager. Rotate stock so that fresh stock enters the shop floor daily and doesn't remain longer than the agreed timescales as directed by Forces Support. Ensure that all rules in terms of recording sales of New Goods and Merchandise are adhered with, so that records can be maintained by Head Office.

Staff



Review the hours and requirements for cover in the absence of the Store Manager for their own shop, and act accordingly to ensure opening hours are adhered to. Provide training and where required induction to paid staff and volunteers so they can perform they can perform their jobs to the best of their ability and make a valued contribution to Forces Support. Organise a rota so that the shop is covered for the duration of the shops opening hours and all work is allocated for that day, both in terms of sales floor and stockroom areas. Maintain and promote a pleasant working environment, for all other paid staff and volunteer that maximum productivity can be achieved. Always promote a culture of effective and positive communication at all levels. Ensure that all staff adhere and comply to all Forces Support policies, procedures and directions given by management within Forces Support. Recruit sufficient levels of volunteers so that the shop can achieve its objectives in terms of sales, Gift aid and other aspects that the role dictates in conjunction with the Shop Manager.

Administration



Ensure that all paperwork is completed on time within the required timescales as directed. Banking is to be done as a minimum 3 times per week, or daily where possible, or where there is a high volume of cash on the premises that could pose a risk to Forces Support. Ensure compliance with all cash handling and financial procedures. Ensure correct procedures are adhered to in the use of the till system, and that they are cashed up in accordance with expectation. Report to the Store Manager/Area Manager/Head Office any issues around cash reconciliation. Hold shop keys, ensuring that the she shop is secure when not open. Attend out of hours where necessary should this be needed. Notify the police and Area Manager in the event of a break in, shop theft or other serious incident. Ensure that the Store Manager, Area Manager and/or Head Office are advised as to any suspected theft by any staff or volunteer as per policies of Forces Support. All personal effects should be kept secure during working time on the charity's premises.

Health and Safety



Provide a safe working environment, and promote this amongst all staff and volunteers, as well as to our customers. Always comply with all Health and Safety regulations. Ensure that all matters relating to the maintenance of the shop are reported to the Store Manager/Area Manager as a matter of urgency.

General Accountability



Provide cover at other locations that are deemed to be within a reasonable travelling distance. To complete any other task, as directed by the Store Manager/Area Manager. Post holders are expected to be familiar and comply with all policies and procedures published.
The job description is an overview of the main aspects/expectations of the role and is liable to progress and develop as the charity continues to expand. It is subject to variation, which will be discussed as they occur, and is not exhaustive. The Post holder will be required to undertake any other duties as they dictated as long as they are perceived reasonable and within capability.
