Hiscox Re&ILS () provide reinsurance for other insurers. We protect our clients' assets against natural and man-made disasters, covering everything from earthquake and hurricane damage to cyber and terror attacks. The team is committed to providing top quality services to brokers, clients, quota share partners and ILS investors through an innovative range of reinsurance products and third-party capital opportunities.
Our team of circa 130 curious and collaborative individuals is based in London and Bermuda, writing reinsurance risks around the world. You will interact with a range of experts from catastrophe analysts to actuaries to claims specialists and more.
Underwriting is about risk analysis and selection, trading, creativity and innovation. At Hiscox, underwriters use judgement, skill and experience to assess, accept or decline risks in line with our underwriting philosophy. Trading, building relationships and negotiating is at the heart of what underwriters do. Through interacting with brokers our experts look to provide innovative ways to transact profitable reinsurance business. Collaboration is an integral part of their role. , Our underwriters work across multiple functions, gathering, sharing & analysing information with teams such as, Pricing, Claims, Operations and Catastrophe Modelling.
About the International Reinsurance team:

Our team operates across our London and Bermuda platforms, writing a range of Property Treaty reinsurance products for our International (non-US) clients.. Our portfolio is geographically diverse with main drivers being Europe, Japan and Australasia. We are a market leader and with this comes the need for product innovation, excellent client and broker service and the ability to deploy meaningful capacity. We strive to create the best tools for analysing the various lines we write to ensure strong returns on capital.
Our team has an ambition to profitably expand our portfolio.. This will require our underwriters to demonstrate an adaptable mindset, strong analytical capabilities, a commercial approach, an entrepreneurial attitude and a strong team-oriented work ethic.
The opportunity:

We're looking for a highly talented individual to join our team in the London office. The candidate will work closely to support the London and Bermuda International underwriting teams, and in time will be expected to prove their ability to underwrite autonomously. Success will be measured by technical excellence, a collaborative approach and a willingness to challenge the status quo and help the team achieve its stated objectives.
What you'll be doing:Analysing and underwriting business and the portfolio using the various rating and modelling tools available to us and looking at ways to improve these tools. Providing day to day proactive underwriting service to brokers. Supporting the other members of the International team, including in the Bermuda office, on a broad variety of underwriting and administrative responsibilities. Developing relationships with brokers and clients with a view to producing additional profitable business. Liaising closely with our modelling and actuarial functions to ensure seamless underwriting processes deliverable to the brokers & cedants.

Person Specification
The winning candidate: We're looking for someone who is highly adaptable, analytical and technical, and with a passion for delivering results. You will need to be a self-starter with an ability to quickly understand problems and an acute ability to solve them. . An ability to build rapport and demonstrate a track record of developing internal and external business relationships is a must.
What we are looking for a candidate who is/has:Adaptable and is able to quickly familiarise themselves with diverse lines of reinsurance business. Results focused and proactive, showing the dedication and energy required to deliver exceptional results under challenging conditions. Proven analytical and numerical capabilities. Hungry to challenge convention and make a difference. Demonstrable commercial awareness and a desire to negotiate and trade in a robust environment. A natural curiosity. Capable of creating and cultivating strong relationships with individuals and teams in the London broking community. The ability to flex a working style to cater for the varying demands this role will present. A confidence to voice opinions and challenge the thinking of others. Fluency in additional languages is a benefit. Mathematics,Statistics or Science discipline at A level or higher would be an advantage.
