The Youth Worker is responsible for engaging, supporting, and empowering young people (typically aged 4-18yrs) through programs, mentoring, and community outreach. They work to foster positive relationships, personal development, and social inclusion, helping youth navigate challenges related to education, employment, relationships, mental health, and more.
Key Responsibilities:
Build trusting, supportive relationships with young people from diverse backgrounds.
Plan, coordinate, and deliver youth programs, workshops, or events.
Provide individual mentoring, guidance, and informal counseling to address issues such as bullying, substance abuse, family conflict, or school disengagement.
Facilitate life skills development (e.g., communication, leadership, goal setting).
Work in partnership with families, schools, community organizations, and social services.
Create a safe, inclusive environment that encourages youth participation and belonging.
Advocate for youth needs within the community and support their access to services.
Monitor and evaluate program outcomes, maintaining accurate records and reports.
Uphold child protection and safeguarding standards at all times.
Key Skills and Qualifications
Experience working/volunteering with young people
Flexibility to work extra evenings as and when required
Ability to engage and motivate youth, especially those at risk.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Understanding of safeguarding, risk assessment, and confidentiality protocols.
Desirable attributes
Level 2 or level 3 in community youth work
