The Intellectual Property team is renowned for its market-leading expertise, having successfully represented clients in landmark IP cases before all levels of UK courts, as well as the Court of Justice of the European Union.
Our integrated Brands group offers comprehensive and streamlined services covering the entire brand lifecycle, from inception to protection, commercialisation and enforcement.
Our diverse team of Partners, Associates, Trade Mark Attorneys, and Paralegals advises clients across a broad range of sectors, safeguarding new, established, or expanding brands, and ensuring that brand protection strategies are robust and commercially viable. We foster close ties with industry bodies and the UK and EU IP Offices and the World Intellectual Property Organisation. This enables us to provide our clients with proactive and informed advice that anticipates change and protects their interests, and adds significant value to their brand.
Duties and Responsibilities
The role will involve advising on a varied range of IP advisory and disputes work, particularly in relation to soft IP matters (trade marks, designs and copyright). This will include day-to-day portfolio management, and worldwide filing, prosecution and enforcement and Registry dispute work at the UKIPO and other IP offices around the world.
You will have the opportunity to engage in all aspects of the life and business of the IP team, the wider Innovation Department, and the Firm. This includes involvement in business development, client care, training and learning, social impact, and health and well-being projects. Our Associates are encouraged to take on leadership roles, regardless of their level of seniority.
Skills/Experience

  • The ideal candidate will have 2- 4 years PQE gained within IP in private practice.
  • A passion for IP, with a solid grounding in its basics, and a commitment to building a career in IP.
  • Experience of advising on trade mark and design strategy, clearance, prosecution, monitoring, portfolio management and enforcement.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with the UKIPO, EUIPO and WIPO.
  • At all times exercise excellent client care skills by advocating for clients from both a technical and commercial perspective ensuring their best interests are prioritised while understanding the current and future landscape.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to manage a diverse portfolio of client work allocated by the Partners.
  • Able to work independently and manage a varied workload, ensuring excellent communication lines with Matter Partners and other fee-earners in the team.
  • Excellent team working skills.
  • Strong organisational and prioritising skills, in order to meet the demands of challenging and commercial internal and external clients and competing priorities.
  • Personable and confident, able to ensure good working relationships with colleagues, clients and external organisations.
  • Resilient and calm under pressure.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrates a hunger to undertake business development activities, both internally amongst colleagues across the firm, and externally to existing and potential new clients.
