The Team




The commercial department offers our public and private clients access to a full range of commercial legal services, including: joint ventures, outsourcing of services, commercial contracts, corporate governance, information management and regulatory matters.


Working as part of a high-performing top tier team, the newly qualified recruit will advise clients on a range of commercial contract, public procurement and public sector vires matters, but with a main focus on commercial arrangements across the public and private sectors. The new recruit will also apply their commercial knowledge to assist with commercial contract due diligence work from time to time.


The commercial department is supported by specialists in our other departments, including real estate, planning, employment and litigation.


What you will be doing




Advising on/preparing a wide variety of commercial contracts and commercial matters, including terms and conditions, bespoke contracts for the sale and purchase of goods and services, IT/software infrastructure contracts, framework agreements and call-off contracts; Advising on the public procurement regime including the delivery of compliant procurement processes for major projects and the establishment of public-sector-owned service delivery companies; Undertaking outsourcing arrangements for the public sector Advising on matters of public sector vires and public law, including principles of good decision-making; Advising on data protection and other regulatory matters that typically are relevant to private companies and their businesses (for example regulations regarding supply goods and service to consumers, and the use of website and marketing materials) Advising on joint venture shareholders' agreements in both the private and public sector; Advising on PPP/PFI contracts including refinancing's and variations; Advising on ad hoc day-to-day corporate and commercial queries from our clients; Advising on outsourcing arrangements and collaboration agreements for both private and public sector clients; Initiating, building and maintaining effective client relationships; Ensuring files are managed in compliance with Lexcel procedures; Pro-active participation in department and firm-wide marketing initiatives which includes writing articles, presenting at conferences, seminars, client events, Business 2 Business meetings with intermediaries, attending networking events etc; Proactive involvement in the wider life of the firm, for example supporting our responsible business, CSR and ED&I initiatives.

What you will need




The firm has a Career Development Framework which sets out the competencies we expect of those at the Associate grade. In particular for this role we require:


Qualified solicitor NQ-3+years. Excellent technical skills and innovative approach to their application. A demonstrable interest in public sector work such as procurement, vires, state aid and willingness to deepen expertise in this field. Strong client focus. Drive and enthusiasm. Commercial awareness. Solid academic record. Ability to manage files independently. Demonstrable passion for business development. Ability to manage files independently with appropriate supervision. A strong team player.
