The Associate Director, Business Ethics, serves as a key compliance advisor within Ipsen's U.S. Business Ethics team, promoting and enhancing a culture of compliance and ethics across the U.S. organization. This role is pivotal in shaping and sustaining a culture of integrity, accountability, and ethical excellence. By leveraging deep compliance expertise and strategic vision, the Associate Director drives the continuous enhancement of robust, data-driven ethics and compliance programs.
The Associate Director partners with senior leaders to anticipate risks, influence strategy, and guide ethical decision-making in a complex and evolving regulatory landscape. The successful candidate will champion Ipsen's purpose and values, foster trust and transparency, and empower teams to uphold the highest standards of business ethics. This position is central to Ipsen's commitment to delivering value to patients and society while ensuring long-term organizational success in the U.S. market.
WHAT - Main Responsibilities & Technical Competencies

  • Influence strategy and lead resolution of complex problems, leveraging deep compliance expertise, while serving as a core member of the U.S. Neuroscience commercial and Medical Affairs leadership teams
  • Proactively anticipate evolving stakeholder needs and drive alignment across business unit and medical affairs leadership teams
  • Lead enterprise-wide risk mitigation strategies and embed ethical and compliant decision-making into strategic planning Champion ethical culture transformation and foster accountability across cross-functional teams Advise senior stakeholders on strategic development and execution of compliant business and medical initiatives Collaborate with Head of U.S. Business Ethics to shape compliance support for Business Operations functions
  • Counsel on data analytics strategies
  • Advise on compliance implications of omnichannel initiatives
  • Manage the annual risk assessment process for the Neuroscience franchise and Medical Affairs teams
  • Deliver strategic, responsive and practical compliance counsel that informs business-critical decisions across commercial and medical functions Partner with Ipsen North America's Legal Department on inherent and execution risk in light of evolving enforcement landscape
  • Design remedial/mitigation action plans using a risk-based approach
  • Prepare for quarterly Business Ethics Committee meetings with senior leadership
  • Lead ethical-culture initiatives and assess progression against HHS-OIG standards for elements of an effective compliance program
  • Advocate and cascade Ipsen's Global Business Ethics & Compliance Program within the U.S. and partner with the Global Business Ethics team on various global initiatives
  • Lead additional compliance activities as needed, such as training and monitoring and country investigations, in collaboration with Monitoring Lead and Global Investigations colleagues, respectively
  • Maintain and build a deep and practical knowledge of various laws, regulations, and industry guidance that affect Ipsen's business and its compliance program (e.g., federal Sunshine Act/Open Payments law, state-based restrictions, licensures, and reporting requirements, industry guidance such as the PhRMA Code, and other applicable laws (Anti-Kickback Statute, FDCA, HIPAA, etc.)
HOW - Knowledge & Experience
Knowledge & Experience
  • 8-10 years of experience, with at least 5 in biopharma ethics or compliance
  • Experience in creating and implementing business ethics programs
  • Demonstrated track record of innovative thinking and in working successfully both individually and in teams
  • Ability to operate independently and in matrixed organizations
  • Demonstrated track record of thriving in environments of accountability without authority, using influence and trust to impact outcomes
  • Proven leadership and communication skills, particularly in communicating with senior leaders.
  • Expertise in providing sound, ethical advice to management on a broad range of business issues.
  • Strong team-playing skills and the ability to participate and influence within large working groups
  • Ability to address multiple and complex ethical and compliance issues.
  • Ability to summarize, transform and communicate complex messages into pragmatic language and educational tools, for ensuring easy access to rules.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills, the ability to train a large audience, respond to questions, present complex matters to management.
  • Outstanding project management, organizational and management skills.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in challenging or adverse situations, while remaining solution oriented.
  • Ability to see the bigger picture; well-organized and focused on results.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, U.S. Federal Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and HIPAA.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the Federal Physician Payments Sunshine Act (Open Payments) and State Laws (restrictions, licensures, and reporting)
  • Broad pharmaceutical compliance experience interacting with field teams (sales, educators), marketing brand teams, Medical Affairs/HEOR, and Market Access..
  • Ability to travel 10-25% of the time, both domestically and internationally
Education / Certifications
  • BA/BS degree required
  • MBA or master's degree is a plus
The annual base salary range for this position is $160,000 - $210,000.
This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentives program. The pay range displayed above is the range of base pay compensation within which Ipsen expects to pay for this role at the time of this posting. Individual compensation within this range depends on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, prior education and experience, job-related knowledge and demonstrated skills.
