Job Description




The Associate Director, Medical Affairs Research will oversee and lead the implementation of the Vertex Managed Access Programs on a global level. Responsibilities include leading the planning, development and execution of Vertex MAPs according to defined goals and in collaboration with other

functions and local country medical teams. The Associate Director will provide leadership as expert of MAP (Compassionate use/expanded access program/named patient program) for Medical Affairs and will supervise an internal team and oversee external vendors/CROs.

Key responsibilities:

  • Leads the implementation of the Managed Access Program strategy
  • Collaborates with Vertex\xe2\x80\x99s Legal department to ensure MAPs are implemented in full compliance with local laws and regulations
  • Collaborates with local country Medical Directors to ensure full alignment on implementation of MAPs on the country level
  • Establish strong working relationships with key stakeholders internally (medical, legal, regulatory, clinical development, clinical operations, drug supply) and externally (consultants, treating physicians, vendors, CROs)
  • Keeps abreast of regulatory changes and best practices of Managed Access Programs (Compassionate use/expanded access program/named patient program)
  • Develops Vertex MAP processes and templates
  • Leads internal training initiatives on Managed Access Programs (Compassionate use/expanded access program/named patient program)
  • Provides regular MAP status reports to Medical Affairs organization and Vertex management
  • May have financial accountabilities and human resource responsibilities for assigned staff.
Key requirements:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in relevant discipline/ Advanced degree in biomedical sciences (PhD or PharmD)
  • Strong industry experience that must include extensive experience in operations and in leading managed access programs on a global level
  • Deep understanding in drug development processes and pharmaceutical business
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Managed Access Program practices and regulations
  • Strong program management track record showing clear proficiency in project management skills
  • Experience in managing external vendors/CROs
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills to persuade managers/leaders to take action
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to function independently and to directly supervise others if required
  • Demonstrated computer literacy; proven functional knowledge of Microsoft.
