We are looking for an experienced insolvency lawyer to join our growing insolvency team.
The ideal candidate will likely be 4-6 PQE with previous experience of both contentious and non-contentious insolvency and restructuring work and a desire to specialise within the insolvency industry.
We offer an opportunity to gain hands-on, client-facing experience as part of a small team, working on a broad range of both contentious and non-contentious corporate and personal insolvency matters.
Our clients include insolvency practitioners, directors, creditors and other stakeholders. Our matters range from high value and high profile matters, through to smaller matters working closely with other teams in the firm.
You will be given a high level of responsibility, whether managing files on your own or working as part of a team on larger matters. You will be actively involved in the team's business development activities, with the desire and initiative to identify opportunities in the market.
The team splits their time between the firm's Putney and Bedford Row offices, and also offers flexible working where appropriate and in line with the needs of our clients.
Technical skills and expertise
The role would suit an energetic lawyer with good attention to detail and a record of providing proactive, commercially astute advice.
At 4-6 PQE you should demonstrate an ability to pro-actively manage files, supervise the work of junior team members and trainees with a desire to grow your practice with an insolvency specialism.
Connections and experience within the insolvency industry would be beneficial but this role would also provide a platform from which to make and develop those connections.
The Role
Duties include but are not limited to:
Conducting insolvency litigation in particular in connection with antecedent transactions, misfeasance and other office holder claims;
Advising directors and other stakeholders on issues that arise when a company is in financial difficulty;
Advising clients in relation to restructuring proposals including CVAs and Part 26A restructuring plans;
Analysing cases to identify strengths, weaknesses and alternative solutions;
Considering various litigation funding options, including Conditional Funding Agreements, as well as working with litigation funders and ATE providers;
Drafting correspondence, witness statements and applications;
Instructing counsel;
Advising office holders on day-to-day matters in connection with their appointment;
Negotiating and exploring Alternative Dispute Resolution as appropriate;
Researching and drafting advice, and recommending effective solutions, in a wide range of insolvency situations;
Dealing with matter opening, including arranging conflicts checks, and ensuring that matters are properly managed from a compliance perspective;
Responding to initial enquiries and liaising with others in the team to take new matters forwards;
Proactively managing a mixed caseload of work to manage client expectations, maintain momentum and ensure sustainable financial performance;
Building and maintaining relationships with clients by repeatedly delivering effective results as part of a close team;
Business development activities internally and externally to raise the profile of the team.
