The University is seeking an Associate Lecturer, with teaching and industry experience to contribute and support the creative, experimental and commercial elements of the BA Illustration programme.

The successful applicant will have practical knowledge of working with both digital and traditional media and, ideally moving image/animation as this is the area we are looking to support with an associate lecturer. Key interests may revolve around (but not exclusively) sequential illustration such as comics and graphic novels, reportage, drawing, publishing or moving image. The ability to bring together creative ideas and technical skill is vital as the post includes locating experimental, research-led illustration work in context. A working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite is essential, and knowledge of printmaking, bookmaking or photographic technologies would be advantageous.

This should be demonstrable through a contemporary portfolio of personal and professional outputs.

About you

The successful applicant should have a degree qualification or equivalent in a relevant subject as well as subject specialist knowledge. A Masters and teaching qualification would be desirable.

Teaching knowledge and experience is essential. The ability to work independently as well as collegiately within a team. To communicate professionally and effectively with learners and colleagues. An ability to use imitative to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. An adaptable, positive, and proactive approach to supporting the general running of the Subject Group, Faculty and wider University.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Undergraduate degree (UG) in a subject relevant to your stated specialism (to teach/supervise at UG level)
  • Professional/industry experience PSRB registration for teaching and assessing on PSRB accredited programs
Desirable:
  • Professional recognition as HEA Associate Fellow (D1) or teaching qualification recognised by HESA, or willingness to obtain HEA Associate Fellow (D1) within an agreed timescale
  • Postgraduate degree (MA/MSc etc.) in a subject relevant to your stated specialism (to teach/supervise at PG level)
Faculty

The BA Illustration programme sits within the subject area of Art and Design in the Faculty of Arts Science and Technology.
