Job Description

We are recruiting for a newly qualified lawyer to join our Licensing team in Scotland. This role is offered on a flexible working, full-time basis, in our Glasgow or Edinburgh office.



Your Role

Day to day to you can expect to be involved with:


Preparing and submitting licence applications Liaising with clients, licensing boards, police and other responsible authorities Attending hearings to present applications on behalf of clients all over Scotland Collaborating closely with colleagues across our office locations Supporting senior team members with complex work

Your Skills & Experience

A qualified Solicitor (SRA or Law Society Registered) NQ level upwards Recent legal experience in licensing, real estate or litigation Some experience or interest in advocacy A forward thinker, with excellent analytical, communication and organisational skills, you will be self-motivated with the ability to manage workloads and deadlines Commercial awareness with enthusiasm for business development, and an appetite for keeping up-to-date with the latest legal developments Ambitious and enthusiastic team player, able to support senior fee earners and contribute to our collaborative culture

Our Licensing team sits within our Real Estate Group of over 250 employees, advising on thousands of transactions across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland each year. Clients instruct us for this experience, our depth of expertise and sector know-how. Many of our real estate partners are independently recognised as leading individuals in the field by the legal industry's annual directory rankings. Clients including many in-house lawyers trust us with both 'high profile' and business as usual work.


In 2021 our Scottish licensing team won the "Client Care of the Year" award at the Scottish Legal Awards for our work supporting our clients and the hospitality sector during the pandemic. In 2024 our Head of Team, Stephen McGowan, won the Scottish Legal Awards "Lawyer of the Year" and the Scottish Business Awards "Legal Partner of the Year". In 2025, licensing partner Caroline Loudon was Recognised for Excellence for Achievements in Law at the Scottish Women's Awards. The team represents a colourful, exciting and diverse range of clients from the leisure, retail, entertainment, tourism and sporting sectors.
