Location: Birmingham (SCC operate hybrid working, which comprises of a mix of office and home working)
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary Package: 20,000 - 25,000 plus large company benefits, a broad flexible benefits scheme, and 2 paid-for volunteering days a year
Hours: 9.00 am - 5.30 pm Monday - Friday

Role purpose:
The role of Associate SOC Analyst will offer the successful candidate an exciting opportunity to work closely with the business across a broad range of activities (projects, new product developments, business processes & stake holder advice) to ensure that information is used in a secure and appropriate manner.
Essentially the role will provision operational security capability, covering a range of tools, services and information, to manage and monitor the security posture of the IT environment; and to provide security incident handling.
The role will be responsible for analysing security events and alerts in order to identify any potentially abnormal system behaviours and raise them as incidents for investigation. These will then be investigated with supporting teams to establish if these are expected events or a security threat whereby they will be escalated to appropriate customer or technical resources for remedial action.
The role of Associate SOC Analyst will also form part of the core security team that deliver and drives continual service improvement across the internal SOC function covering SCC customers ensuring delivery of best of breed compliant security services in the most effective and efficient manner.
Security clearance or the willingness to apply will be required for this role.
Key responsibilities:
  • Monitor the SCC Cyber customer landscape for security breaches and investigate offences when they occur.
  • Triage security offence log files sources and ensure they are escalated for future investigation or correct closure as false positive.
Assist in the preparation of reports that document offences and the extent of the damage that has or may occur. * In time and with experience, advise on incident containment measures.
  • In time and with experience, contribute to digital forensic investigations, assisting with data capture and analysis.
  • Collaborate with IT technical teams across the business to deliver Cyber Service improvements.
  • Assist with the development of process and procedures, including the development of 'Playbooks' to ensure best practice is implemented when possible.
  • Maintain awareness of developing Information Technology and security risk landscape.
  • Gain an awareness of and develop know how of standards and regulations such as GDPR, ISO27001, NIST, PCI, SOX, HTECH.
Skills and experience:
  • Hold a basic knowledge of Information Technology with a keen to develop understanding of technical skills within the Cyber and Information Security landscape.
  • Possess analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Positive personal qualities including drive, professionalism, integrity and teamwork.
  • Under supervision, ensure work is delivered on time, and to the required quality.
  • Grow briefing skills and technics to enable you to brief at all levels and across the business, this will include oral and written communication skills.
  • Have a keen eye for detail whilst being determined to find the unexpected or the obscured information.
  • Embrace the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) best practices, develop a logical approach to service delivery and gain formal accreditation.
