Birkbeck, University of London, has an excellent opportunity for an Associate Tutor to teach accounting at Birkbeck's Business School next year in 2026.
As fixed-term, part-time Associate Tutor, you would support the module:
Introduction to Accounting
Spring Term, Mondays, 2-5pm, 9 weeks, & 7.30-9pm, 9 weeks
Spring Term, Fridays, 2-5pm, 9 weeks of teaching.
This post offers the opportunity to contribute to an engaging undergraduate module at Birkbeck's Business School. Introduction to Accounting is a compulsory module for students enrolled on our undergraduate programmes.
The module provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles and practices of accounting, offering students the foundational knowledge and practical skills needed for further study in accounting, finance, and business.
Topics include the role and purpose of accounting; the accounting equation; preparation of financial statements; accruals and prepayments; depreciation; control accounts; and an introduction to management accounting concepts. The content draws upon examples to support critical engagement and practical understanding.
To succeed as Associate Tutor you should possess sound knowledge of accounting principles and practices, ideally with experience in teaching accounting to undergraduate students. A commitment to supporting student learning and academic development is also essential.
The module is delivered through a combination of pre-recorded lectures made available online and weekly in-person classes. The pre-recorded lectures and reading materials are already in place.
The primary responsibility of the postholder will be to lead the weekly in-person sessions, which are designed to be interactive rather than lecture-based, incorporating exercises and problem-solving activities.
The role also involves the marking of assignments. The Module Convenor will oversee the module and provide ongoing support to the person appointed.
As an Associate Tutor, you will have:
Advanced experience in teaching and supporting students on academic and research skills.
A track record of student engagement and want to contribute to an impactful and transformational educational experience.
The ability able to work both as part of a team and independently as appropriate, and have the ability to support teaching.
This is your chance to be part of a dynamic School at Birkbeck, situated in the heart of London's historic Bloomsbury area, so apply with us today.
