The role of Assurance & Risk Manager sits within the SPR CEO Office reporting to the Head of Performance & Planning and is primarily responsible for ensuring that the SPR has an effectively designed and operating risk management framework in place. The role of Assurance & Risk Manager is responsible for defining and implementing an appropriate risk methodology and providing sufficient assurance over business risks to Executive Management and the SPR CEO.
The Assurance & Risk Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining an appropriate controls and assurance framework to ensure key business risks are mitigated and support the achievement of business objectives. The Assurance & Risk Manager will support the implementation of this framework through a programme of assurance reviews.
The Assurance & Risk Manager is also responsible for managing the business interface with key stakeholders, including Corporate Risk and Internal Audit, and is also responsible for managing the business SPR response to Regulatory obligations, such as REMIT.
What you'll be doingResponsible for the design and maintenance of an overarching SPR risk management framework including interfacing with key business stakeholders onshore and offshore to develop and implement a consistent risk methodology.
Responsible for using granular risk information (i.e. from project risk register level) and working with local risk owners to assimilate a view of risk at a programme / strategic level.
Responsible for preparing SPR-level risk reports for use internally (to SPR CEO and Executive Management) and to other SP areas (Corporate Risk).
Chair relevant risk fora at SPR director level to provide an appropriate level of risk governance.
Develop and complete a programme of risk-based audit and assurance activity to ensure key business risks are appropriately managed, with appropriate follow up as required.
Lead and manage ad-hoc reviews in SPR as determined by key directors which may involve leading staff with no risk or audit experience. Includes establishing and driving associated action plans and recommendations to address issues or gaps identified.
Operate as an effective conduit between assurance teams across Scottish Power/Iberdrola and the SPR business to ensure optimal approach, increased awareness and best value of these interaction is secured for SPR
Responsible for implementing and managing appropriate assurance mapping to demonstrate appropriate risk coverage and mitigation.
Responsible for ensuring that SPR has an appropriate framework of controls in place to comply with all REMIT obligations. Manage the REMIT interface with GEM / liberalised business.
Drive a strong culture of risk, controls and compliance through training and awareness raising.
What you'll bringEducated to degree level or equivalent in commercial/business subject such as economics, finance, risk, or numeric degree
Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
Strong written and oral communication skills, demonstrated by past report writing experience and ability to negotiate/influence
Confidence in presenting complex information in an understandable manner
Competence in Microsoft Office Applications
Ability to work with limited supervision and to interact across all levels of management and executive
Understanding and knowledge of energy markets and the regulatory drivers affect operation of renewable plant.
Ability to prioritise, work under pressure and handle multiple, often complex and interrelated issues with conflicting set deadlines.
Highly driven, decisive and focused with strong commercial and financial skills and ability to think strategically
Prior experience of risk management in a regulatory capacity or other related field complimented by past audit or consulting experience
Excellent presentation skills, with experience in dealing with directors, senior management and officials from government, regulatory bodies and other market participants.
Ability to effectively lead teams (not necessarily in line) and work in cross functional teams.
Exceptionally proactive nature, with the ability to innovate and challenge in recognition and support of the business model in which SPR is operating.
