This role will involve identification of pupils who are persistent absentees, severely persistent absentees and those who are not improving their attendance over time. The successful candidate will work with pupils, their families, all of our sites, APs and supporting agencies to identify barriers to attendance and plan to overcome these. The attendance officer will also ensure that we are compliant with register completion,national guidance from the DfE and take responsibility for our attendance and related policies. This role will ensure that pupils are seen daily and you will take proactive action to coordinate safe and well home visits across the academy where pupils have been absent.This role will involve implementing formal consequences such as penalty notices and holiday fines. You will complete data analysis at least half termly to identify all families who require intervention by formal action via letter following the Local Authority guidance. This will involve thorough recording and the additional 10 days work out of term time will allow for completion of data analysis and identification of formal intervention. This can be completed flexibly at home and candidates are not expected to attend the academy during school holidays.You will organise your own diary which can be flexible to meet the needs of the academy. This will consist of planned time working at home, on each of the sites, but also must be reactive to intervene with pupil absences.You will provide support for pupils across all sites and also support staff with their attendance knowledge and practise. This role will involve ensuring that pupils receive swift intervention and support to keep them safe, identify risks to any non- attendance and initiate rapid action. This role will also involve the celebration of improved attendance through our rewards policy. Days will be varied in order to meet the needs of the pupils. You will be led by our Assistant Headteacher and senior Pastoral Officer who manages the pastoral team and you will communicate with the safeguarding team daily.Applicants should have good knowledge and experience of working with disaffected pupils in a school or other alternative setting. An affinity for pupils with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties is an essential quality for this challenging but rewarding opportunity. Applicants should be resilient, have high expectations, and a sense of humour. You must be able to build positive relationships with our pupils and their families and have innovative ideas for improving attendance. A growth mindset and positive ethos are essential characteristics that we are looking for.Payment of mileage and off -site travel can be claimed for in arrears. Candidates must have access to a car and business insurance included.
