The Attendance Officer plays a crucial role in promoting and maintaining high levels of student attendance within the educational environment. This position involves working closely with students, parents, and school staff to educate them on the importance of regular attendance and to address any barriers that may prevent students from attending school regularly. The Attendance Officer will monitor attendance records, implement strategies to improve attendance rates, and ensure compliance with local education regulations.
Responsibilities
Monitor and analyse student attendance records to identify patterns and trends.
Work collaboratively with students, parents, and school staff to educate them on the significance of regular school attendance.
Develop and implement targeted interventions for students with poor attendance.
Conduct home visits when necessary to engage with families and address attendance issues.
Maintain accurate records of communications and interventions related to student attendance.
Prepare reports on attendance statistics for school leadership and relevant stakeholders.
Liaise with external agencies as needed to support families in overcoming barriers to attendance.
Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance skills related to student engagement and attendance improvement.
Experience
Previous experience in an educational setting or a role involving student support is desirable.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
Demonstrated ability to educate others about the importance of regular attendance and its impact on academic success.
Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail in record keeping and reporting.
A proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
