Auto CAD Specialist (2-Week Contract, In-Studio)

Role Overview:

We're seeking an advanced CAD Specialist to join us in-studio for a two-week contract to develop, automate, and standardise our AutoCAD systems. The goal is to create a seamless, intelligent setup that supports all project stages from feasibility and planning through to tender and construction documentation while auditing and refining our existing CAD library for improved efficiency and consistency.

Key Responsibilities:

Automation & Efficiency Enhancements

Create custom tool palettes preloaded with common blocks, hatches, line types, and annotations. Set up automated title block fields (auto-populating project info, sheet names, dates, and revisions). Develop scripts or routines for repetitive tasks (e.g. layer naming, page setups, purging, plotting). Build dynamic and parametric blocks (e.g. doors, windows, furniture, north arrows) that adapt with minimal clicks. Create custom plotting setups (PDF, A1/A3, black & white vs colour, etc.).

Library Organisation & Integration

Audit our existing CAD library - it's already in place but requires refinement for greater consistency and usability. Streamline and enhance existing folder structures and naming conventions. Check and link standard details and drawing references directly into the updated template system. Ensure consistency of blocks, hatches, and layers across all project stages. Produce a concise CAD standards guide or index outlining how the system operates and should be maintained.

Additional Responsibilities

Implement referencing and file organisation systems across the studio's CAD environment. Deliver a fully set up, documented CAD library and provide a short handover or training session for the team.

Requirements:

Expert AutoCAD user with 5+ years of architectural experience. Proven ability to create automated and standardised CAD environments for architecture practices. Strong understanding of architectural drawing standards from concept to construction. Excellent technical and organisational skills with an eye for workflow efficiency. Confident working independently in a design-led studio environment.
