About the role



We have multiple exciting opportunities to join the University of Oxford's IT Services as an Apprentice Audiovisual Technician in Educational Media Services Department as part of the AV Support Service in on-site roles as we expand our central service to support new flagship building projects.

We are looking for self-motivated individuals with a keen interest in audio and video technology, good customer service skills and previous experience of working in a professional environment to join our dedicated AV team, helping us to deliver a world-class user experience for staff, students and visitors via in-person support, telephone calls and email.

The purpose of this role is to support the AVSS Technician team to ensure the functionality of AV systems across multiple sites in the University as part of the Educational Media Services team. The role will entail working with colleagues in Educational Media Services (https://help.it.ox.ac.uk/media) to support the teaching and learning objectives of the University and reporting to the AV Support Service Officer.

This role supports teaching staff as well as a range of activities including lectures, meetings, events, and online hybrid working.

The AV Apprentice Technician is required to provide to end users with support, and advice on how to use AV related software as well as AV and IT hardware such as PTZ cameras, microphones, projectors, touch screens, and visualisers.

About the apprenticeship



As part of this role, you will undertake an Apprenticeship with Middlesborough College, where you will complete an Audiovisual Technician Apprenticeship (Level 5).
For this apprenticeship, you will work as part of the AV Support Service in Central Oxford based in the newly built Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities. As part of your apprenticeship, you will be required to attend Middlesborough College's online and remote training. During your apprenticeship, you will need to attend 1 day a week.

In total, it will take 2 years to complete all elements of the apprenticeship, with support from the Department, University, and College throughout.

About you



You will be passionate about starting your career in AV and excited about the opportunity of becoming an apprentice at the University of Oxford. You may be starting your career or you may be looking for a career change.

To complete the level 5 apprenticeship you will need to evidence passes at Grade 4+ in GCSE Maths and English, or equivalent. Regardless of your prior qualifications Middlesborough College will require you to complete a short initial assessment during the application process. There are also government residency requirements for Apprenticeship funding which the Training Provider will be able to advise on.
