to join our AWS BAU team and ensure smooth day-to-day operations across our IT environment. The BAU Engineer will be responsible for maintaining systems, addressing incidents, performing routine tasks, and supporting ongoing business operations. This role is ideal for someone with strong technical troubleshooting skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to balance stability with continuous improvement.
The role also requires participation in an on-call rota (rotational basis) to support business-critical services outside regular hours.
Key Responsibilities
Manage daily BAU operational tasks, including system monitoring, patching, and incident resolution.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues across servers, networks, applications, and end-user environments.
Ensure adherence to SLAs and compliance with IT service management (ITSM) processes.
Maintain documentation for incidents, changes, and standard operating procedures.
Work closely with the Service Delivery, Security, and SRE/DevOps teams to ensure seamless handovers and escalations.
Perform root cause analysis and recommend preventive actions for recurring issues.
Support scheduled maintenance, upgrades, and capacity planning activities.
Identify opportunities for process automation and efficiency improvements.
Shift working Monday-Friday as per project requirements
Creating and maintaining documentation and knowledge-based articles
Management of SSL certificates and their renewals
Monitor the estate using Datadog/CloudWatch and proactively react to alerts.
Patch management of the estate using tools including RedHat Satellite and Ansible
Skills & Qualifications
Proven experience in IT operations, system administration, or similar BAU support roles.
Familiarity with ITIL practices (Incident, Change, Problem Management).
Strong Linux System Administration experience
Good grasp of networking basics (DNS, firewalls, load balancers)
To be able to communicate and articulate technical issues across all levels (i.e., technical team members as well as less-technical management)
Must have (or be eligible for) SC Clearance
Strong Knowledge in AWS services EC2, ELB, RDS, ECS, EMR, S3, Config, CloudTrail, EFS, Lambda, VPC,
EBS
and IAM
Nice-to-Have
Exposure to SRE/DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
Experience with security operations (patching, vulnerability management).
Knowledge of Docker or container-based systems
Working Knowledge Terraform, GitHub actions and Ansible AWS, RHEL, Terraform certification
Understanding of network troubleshooting, firewall proxies etc
