Backend Software Engineer - VC-Backed Fintech Scale-Up - London / Hybrid - 100k plus equity

I'm partnering with a fast-growing fintech scale-up that's on a bold mission: to make payments free for businesses and customers everywhere. By eliminating fees and passing savings to customers, they're disrupting traditional payment providers and driving increased sales and loyalty for businesses. Already, 1,000+ businesses and 400,000+ customers rely on their platform, and they've raised over $30m from leading venture capital and angel investors.

They're now scaling their engineering team and are looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join a collaborative, high-performing team. You'll play a key role in designing and building their payments, B2B API, and personalisation infrastructure, helping the company deliver a seamless, reliable experience for millions of users.

What You'll Be Doing

Designing, building, and evolving the core backend services for payments and personalisation. Partnering closely with Product and UX teams to turn ideas into high-quality solutions. Taking part in architecture discussions and contributing to engineering best practices. Owning features end-to-end, from design and development to deployment and monitoring. Sharing knowledge across the team and supporting growth of the engineering community.

What We're Looking For

5+ years of experience in backend software engineering, ideally in fintech, payments, eCommerce, or high-transaction environments. Strong hands-on experience with Node.js, TypeScript, NestJS (can be flexible around NestJS), and AWS. Experience building and maintaining public REST APIs and working with distributed systems. Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and containerisation (Kubernetes). A collaborative, delivery-focused mindset and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced startup environment.
Bonus points for candidates with experience in payments infrastructure, banking, or consumer fintech products.
