What You'll Be Doing





We are seeking an experienced and innovative

Backend Technical Lead

to drive the technical direction of the BeatStars backend application. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise with strong leadership skills to design, develop, and maintain our complex distributed systems infrastructure. This is a very hands-on role that will require not only technical design and decision-making but also extensive coding. This position will report to the Manager, Backend Engineering.

Lead the design and implementation of scalable, high-performance backend systems Develop and maintain robust, efficient, and scalable backend solutions Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement technical strategies Conduct code reviews and ensure high-quality software development practices Optimize system performance, reliability, and scalability Drive continuous improvement of development processes and technical infrastructure Participate in solution design, technical planning, and system architecture discussions Partner with stakeholders & QA to ensure product requirements are met and we're always delivering value to customers.

Technical Qualifications




Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience 6+ years of relevant software engineering experience Advanced skills in: + Java 8+ and SpringBoot ecosystem + Docker and containerization technologies
+ Microservices architecture within the AWS environment
+ Serverless technologies (Lambda, Fargate)
+ Asynchronous workflow design

Database and Data Technologies




Extensive experience with: + DynamoDB + MySQL
+ Redis
+ ElasticSearch

Cloud and Infrastructure




Comprehensive knowledge of AWS services: Experience with build and release processes using: + Git + Jira
+ Jenkins
+ GitHub Actions
Strong understanding of distributed systems design Ability to create scalable, fault-tolerant infrastructure

Additional Preferred Skills




Experience with GoLang Proficiency in GraphQL Ability to mentor and develop junior engineers

Compensation:





This salary/OTE range represents the low, middle, and high end of the salary or OTE (Sales roles only) range for this position and is subject to change. To determine starting pay, we carefully consider a variety of factors, including primary work location and an evaluation of a candidate's skills, experience, market demands, and internal parity. The range shared on JDs is a broad range to cover multiple regions. Candidates will be given a specific range based on their city/country during the initial screen.



Salary/OTE is just one component of our total rewards package. All regular employees are also eligible for additional benefits and perks that BeatStars has to offer.



Preferred locations to hire are in the United Kingdom. This is a UK-based role only. No other locations will be considered at this time. The remote salary range for this role is as follows:


UK BETL - 100k-139k GBP

BeatStars is a globally distributed team. To support collaboration across regions, we operate with core working hours designed to ensure meaningful overlap across teams:

PT (US): 7:00 AM - 11:00 AM CT (US): 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM ET (US): 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM GMT+1 (UK & Portugal): 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM GMT-3 (Brazil): 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM GMT+2 (South Africa & Germany): 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM

While we generally have the flexibility to build an 8-hour work day, we ask for flexibility during core hours, as from time to time, it may be needed to attend global calls that cover more than 2 time zones during these hours. We ask folks to schedule events when possible, at least 3 working days in advance.
