The Back Up Engineer role is based in our City of London office, reporting to the Tech Lead, Storage Services and is organisationally positioned within our Engineering and Enterprise Technology team.


We are seeking a forward thinking, analytical and reliable professional with a strong understanding of working in a global and regulated environment, and will be responsible for maintaining and managing a complex back up system involving large numbers of nightly backups (around 10,000).


The backup engineer will be able to use their problem solving abilities to provide resolution of complex problems and improvements to the environment. In addition, the individual will work with the architect function and the vendor to develop and maintain plans to keep the environment stable, performant with the functionality required for the future.


We are looking for someone who can also successfully lead project implementations from initiation through completion, ensuring smooth training and a seamless handover to the baseline team.

The Function & Role:

Engineering & Enterprise Tech is responsible for delivering stable, high quality, secure and cost-efficient infrastructure solutions for Rabobank's businesses. This incorporates design, implementation, security and support of (amongst others) data centre networks, server capacity, data centres, workplace (desktop, laptop, mobile) etc.


Key areas of responsibility:

Ensure operational stability and supportability
Within these responsibilities the following specific tasks are key:

Maintain data retention for historic data Perform daily, weekly and periodic checks and procedures as required to ensure operational reliability. Perform product lifecycle management. Test, maintain and improve monitoring and checking. Add and remove backups to new and existing servers according to defined process and policy. Perform Operational Acceptance Tests for servers for backups. Capacity planning of backup environments ensuring appropriate investment is made at the appropriate time. Ensure that standards are maintained in line with departmental policies and automated checks where practical Accountable for delivery of individually-assigned projects




Skills & Experience Required:

Business Knowledge & Technical Skills

The role requires an in-depth knowledge of Backup & Recovery architectures and technology. In particular, an in depth knowledge of the Veeam Backup product. Troubleshoot stability and performance problems for Backups. Definition and documentation of best practice process and design. Install and configure Backup & Recovery hardware and software. Identify requirements and develop/deploy solutions for Backup environments. Knowledge of working for a company supporting a large number of backups. Strong knowledge of at least one operating system. Clear verbal and written communication to peers and management. Willingness to travel between NL and UK and globally as required.

Desirable:

Knowledge of IBM Spectrum Protect (TSM). Knowledge of NetBackup. Knowledge of client operating systems Windows/RHEL/Solaris.
