Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated dispensing assistant whose main objective will be to be proactive and efficient when managing our extremely busy pharmacy reception.
The post holder will enhance pharmacy's reputation by delivering a friendly, professional, and informative front-line service to all our customers; this may be face to face, when answering the telephone or via the pharmacy tracker.
The ideal candidate will be looking for a role which is varied in terms of the queries which are received and the assistance they will provide to our Pharmacy team members who will be based on the wards and within the department.
We welcome applicants from individuals working in community pharmacy who would like to start a career in hospital pharmacy, with training provided.

Main duties of the job

  • To assist in the provision of a safe and efficient pharmacy service.
  • To deal with day-to-day enquiries from staff members, the public, patients, and other hospital depts in a courteous, efficient, and timely manner. This will involve answering phone calls.
  • To become an integral member of the pharmacy team, working closely with all staff members to support them as they put the care of their patients first.
  • To serve patients at the pharmacy reception.
  • To support with the physical delivery of medication to ward areas at Solihull Hospital.
  • To contribute to achieving all Trust and National targets using the various IT systems available including PICs and pharmacy tracker, training will be provided.
  • To receive, dispense and issue prescriptions and provide other support services to the Pharmacy department, including the receipt of orders and the supply of medicines to wards and departments.
  • To possess good communication skills, be flexible, committed and be a good team player.
  • To build on previous IT skills using pharmacy specific computer systems, following training.
  • To demonstrate an ingrained high standard of customer service care.
  • To demonstrate excellent time management skills.
  • To excel in a busy and sometimes challenging environment.
  • To be prepared to participate in our weekend and bank holiday rota as required.

  • *GCSEs C/4 or above (or equivalent) in Mathematics and English
  • *Holds or is willing to work towards an NVQ level 2 Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills (QCF) and BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Pharmaceutical Science
