Job Description

We are looking for a band 5 qualified nurse with experience in learning disabilities.



This is an exciting opportunity to work with a very established and dedicated team of staff. Belbrook is currently rated as good with Ofsted and Belbrook are very proud to offer a home away from home short stay service for children and young people.



Belbrook is a short break children's home in Bristol commissioned by Bristol City Council and employs AWP staff. We provide respite care for children from 8-18 years of age with learning disabilities and complex health needs. The provision covers 24-hour care and the shifts reflect this with sleep in duties and unsocial hours, including evenings, weekends



Belbrook provides overnight care for up to three/four children, each night.

As the nurse in charge of a shift, you will be a key worker to a group of allocated children, responsible for developing and reviewing care plans and risk assessments and liaising with parents/ carers and other relevant professionals to support the child in every aspect of their life.



We would expect you to provide a safe and supportive environment with personalised activities and regular trips into the community. You will manage a team of care staff, provide regular supervisions for staff members and deputise in the absence of the Home Manager.



We will provide you with regular supervision, appraisal and training opportunities to enhance your post. This role is currently under review as part of an ongoing service review. We welcome applications and further details can be provided during the recruitment process.

Number of staff responsible for:

3 - 6 on each shift



To carry out clinical practice within designated clinical areas, ensuring that high quality evidence-based nursing assessment, care planning, interventions and evaluations for children and young people is provided. To ensure delivery of high quality residential service for disabled children detailed: National Minimum Care Standards of Children's Homes. This will include:



Undertaking a comprehensive, children/person-centred, nursing assessment and prepare care plans in consultation with the children/young people, their parents/carers and supporting professionals, to provide the best nursing care



Implementation of care plan and advocating for the children/young people.



Evaluation of effectiveness of care plan provided in partnership with children and young people parents and carers and support professionals.



Ability to implement research-based practice



Following successful completion of preceptorship, ability to supervise junior and unregistered staff



Ability to administer medicine within relevant Trust and legislative guidance e.g. NMC Standards for Medicines Management 2010 and the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.



Ability to undertake risk assessment and develop risk management strategies for individual children and young people who present with challenging behaviour.



Demonstrate a working knowledge of the key elements of relevant Legislation for Disabled Children in Residential Services.



Ensure the ordering storage, administration and disposal of medication complies with relevant trust and legislative guidance e.g. NMC Standards for Medicines Management 2010,Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and MHA (1983)
