Job Description

Support the patient pathway within the endoscopy unit - admissions, consenting, assisting in the procedure rooms, recovery and discharge. Take part in audits and be supported by senior members within the team. Contribute significantly toward the continuing development of professional nursing practice within the Endoscopy Unit. Act as a mentor and role model to others, reflecting the beliefs about professional nursing practice and patient care outlined in the Endoscopy department philosophy. Communicate information effectively to patients / carers and all members of the multidisciplinary team. The post holder must have experience in endoscopy. The post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multidisciplinary team and service users related to the speciality. To be responsible for all aspects of patient care including the assessment, planning,

delivery and evaluation of direct patient care with supervision from senior staff.

To support the Charge Nurse/Senior Sister to monitor the safety and quality of care for

patients.

In the absence of the Junior Sister, the Charge Nurse will be responsible for the day-today management of the ward; to support the charge nurse. To work with the Junior sister in managing a group of Nursing Assistants and assign

delegated tasks and responsibility as appropriate.

To develop the required skills in Endoscopy which allows the nurse to assist clinicians

safely and with confidence.

To ensure the compliance of mandatory training and appraisal requirements for own self. To ensure a positive focussed service incorporating patients' feedback to maintain and

improve patient care.

To act as an effective role model promoting excellence through practice.
