Duties and responsibilities for the role include but are not limited to: Clinically manage patients attending rehabilitation courses. Deliver physiotherapy assessments, interventions, education sessions, tailored exercise programmes and discharge plans for patients utilising Defence and National best-practice guidelines within a structured course setting as part of a rehabilitation team. Use enhanced clinical reasoning, communication strategies and inter-personal skills to maximise occupational outcomes for personnel with diverse and complex MSK presentations including post-operative, persistent pain, sporting and high-performance populations. Enable seamless care pathway management, ensuring exercise programmes, summary reports and referrals are completed in a timely manner on course discharge.
Work as part of a team. Assist the course Exercise Rehabilitation Instructor (ERI) or Exercise Therapist (ET) in operational delivery of the course programme whilst retaining clinical leadership of patients care. Prioritise patients clinical interventions utilising enhanced clinical reasoning and time management skills. Deliver group education and therapy sessions as programmed or as staffing requires.
Proactively engage with clinical superiors and wider members of the rehabilitation team including Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM) consultants and Medical Officers, podiatrists, senior rehabilitation staff, military managers and administration staff for opinions, assessments or interventions or onward referrals during course admission. Optimise residential delivery outcomes by liaising with referring clinicians to understand barriers to progression, understand general occupational functional requirements to agree realistic goals. Utilise wider Defence and external treatment pathway options when formulating discharge plans. Contribute to wider MSK services.
Deliver additional specialist outpatient interventions alongside course delivery as indicated in line with training and experience, including Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT). Support the wider clinical team and develop service expertise by contributing to clinical triage, Multidisciplinary Injury Assessment Clinic (MIAC) activity and administrative tasks as indicated.
