Job Description

The Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust has the largest NHS decontamination facility in the UK, which is based in Enfield.



The Decon unit has the capacity to process 14 million surgical instruments and 140,000 flexible endoscopes a year providing a service to both the NHS and Private Hospitals. The service is open 7 days a week 24 hours a day. We are looking for experienced individuals to join our Bank Team, who are able to work flexibly, have good organisational skills, attention to detail and can work to deadlines.

The role of SSD Technician is to assist in the day-to-day production, issue and distribution of medical devices required for clinical use. Technicians are expected to follow demonstrated training and work instructions to ensure production is to a high standard.

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES



1.Disassemble re-usable medical devices, disinfect, pack and sterilise according to local and national policies.



2.Constantly adhere to good practice as trained.



3.Appropriate PPE to be always worn.



4.Cover work in all production areas including washing facilities.



RESPONSIBILITY FOR PATIENTS



1.Support the management team to ensure an efficient and appropriate service is provided to our customers, flexibility in working pattern / times may be required.



2.Assist the management team to ensure work is done in an organised manner.



3.Record and submit clinical incident information when events happen through non-conformance reporting.



4.Address customer complaints in a professional manner and ensure concerns are followed up.



5.Follow work instructions accurately to maintain quality service to patients/customers.



6.Ensure traceability system is used accordingly.



RESPONSIBILITY FOR POLICY AND SERVICE DEVELOPMENT



1.Commit to continuing personal and professional development both through departmental and trust training schemes.



2.Complete non-conformance systems as trained as and when necessary.



3.Assist the management team in ensuring that the Trust's decontamination facilities work in accordance with all relevant guidelines.



4.Support and adapt to any changes that are implemented to improve the service.



5.Participate in Staff Development Review in accordance with Trust policy.



6.Ensure with Quality Control Officer that all required checks are carried out as and when instructed to do so.



7.Participate in the audit process.
