Key responsibilities will include:

Assisting the construction tutor with the delivery of practical and theoretical lessons, ensuring that all learners are engaged and participating actively. Providing one-on-one assistance to students who need extra help or work with small groups to facilitate understanding of construction concepts and techniques. Helping set up tools, materials, and equipment for practical sessions, ensuring everything is safe and ready for use. Monitoring students during practical activities, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and assisting with risk assessments. Assisting with maintaining student records, tracking attendance, and providing feedback on student performance to the tutor. Motivating and support students, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment where all learners feel safe and encouraged to progress. Working collaboratively to accommodate students with special educational needs and disabilities, adapting tasks where necessary and ensuring accessibility. Working to establish supportive relationships with learners, parents and carers in order to facilitate effective communication and partnership Supporting learners to develop emotional and physical resilience to enable them to make progress towards their career and life goals Being aware of confidential information linked to learner/home and personal situations and to adhere to Safeguarding and Confidentiality Policies and Procedures To support with the learner Behaviour Management Policy and to be a good role model for learners and families Support with preparation of folders for external moderation

Person specification

SKILLS AND CORE COMPETENCIES (E = Essential D = Desirable)

Technical competency (qualifications and training certificates/licenses)

Relevant experience in the construction industry, with hands-on knowledge of trades such as carpentry and bricklaying. (E) Ability to engage and support learners of varying abilities and backgrounds. (E) Understanding of health and safety practices within a construction setting. (E)
Experience

Previous experience working as a teaching assistant or in an educational environment. (D) Familiarity with working with SEND learners and differentiating support to meet their needs. (D) Teaching assistant qualification (D)

Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Enthusiastic and supportive approach to working with young people. Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work flexibly. Practical problem solving abilities and a commitment to fostering a safe learning environment. Patience and the ability to adapt to the changing needs of learners.
Working Conditions:

Flexible hours based on departmental needs. Work may take place in classrooms, workshops, or on-site construction environments. Some physical activity may be required, such as moving equipment or assisting with practical construction tasks.

Hours: As and when required

Salary: 15.75 - 26.25 per hour

As this role involves regular work with children and young people, and meets the definition of regulated activity, it is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
