Job Description

Halas Homes is a local charity that provides quality residential care and support for adults with learning disabilities.

We currently have a vacancy within our catering team.

Qualities required of post holder:



To enable people with learning disabilities to improve and maintain their quality of life by providing support in achieving daily living skills, developing and maintaining relationships with tenants, staff and the local community and supporting tenants' rights, choices, social inclusion and independence. This position requires the post holder to have written and oral English skills to a good standard.

To uphold the values of choice, dignity and personalization in all daily interactions with service users and clients recognizing that their choice and control remains at the forefront of all that we do.

To promote, maintain and share the values and culture of Halas Homes throughout all interactions with service users, staff, visitors and professional contacts.

Purpose of Position:



To assist in the preparation and cooking of the menu meals to the required standard

To assist the Cooks in the economic use of materials

To support the Cooks in the effective operation of the kitchen

Principle Responsibilities:



To ensure confidentiality, dignity, privacy and respect for service users at all times and to sign up to become a Dignity Champion.

To undertake and take ownership of a Personal Development Plan which is linked to Halas Homes' aims and objectives as laid out in Halas Homes' Statement of Purpose.

To keep up to date with Halas Homes' policies and procedures and to ensure that you comply with these.

To develop personal knowledge base and raise competence regarding service users' care by participating in staff meetings, staff training sessions and other methods of staff development. All staff have a responsibility to undertake statutory and mandatory training as deemed appropriate by the management.

To display a courteous attitude to service users, their relatives, visitors, and other staff at all times.

Support the Registered Manager in her duties as the responsible person for the Home under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and the fire regulations.

1. To prepare food and assist with cooking in a hygienic manner ensuring that the kitchen area is kept clean and tidy at all times.

2. To be aware of the clients' dietary needs and respond to their comments by communication with the Head Cook /Senior Care Staff.

3. To work towards achieving suitable food and hygiene certificates.

4. To dispose of waste correctly following Halas Homes policy.

5. To ensure that all food is used within the prescribed period, with particular attention paid to perishable goods.

6. To contribute in the serving of food

7. Participate in relevant staff training.

8. To undertake and take ownership of a Personal Development Plan which is linked to Halas Homes' aims and objectives.

9. To have knowledge of Halas Homes' policies and procedures and to ensure that you comply with these.
