The Nursing Associate supports the delivery of safe, compassionate, and family-centred care for children and young people with learning disabilities, complex health needs, or special educational needs. Working under the direction of Registered Nurses, they contribute to health assessments, care planning, and ongoing care within the community nursing caseload. Key responsibilities include performing delegated clinical tasks such as medication administration (including injections), enteral feeding support, basic wound care, clinical observations, and responding to emergencies. The role involves assisting with EHCP processes, continence assessments, specialist clinics, and maintaining accurate electronic patient records.
The Nursing Associate promotes effective communication with children, families, and multi-disciplinary teams, demonstrating professionalism, compassion, and respect. They support junior staff and contribute to service improvement, clinical audits, and adherence to national and local policies. The role requires working independently within defined competencies, following safeguarding, confidentiality, consent, and lone-working guidelines.
