For over 40 years Second Chance Headway Centre has offered information, support and advocacy to people affected by brain injury - including survivors, family members, friends and unpaid carers

Bank Staff work on flexible basis as and when required



Normal working hours are 9-4pm Monday - Friday (when required)

PURPOSE



To support service users appropriate to their individual needs, ensuring that each service user leads a full and valued life and receives quality services.

To participate in the development of service users' individual and group programmes and complete written records as necessary in accordance with guidelines provided. Contribute to creating an environment that aids social interaction for service users.

To work as an integral part of the team, sharing the charities ethos and in line with the mission statement. Maintain a professional, supportive and approachable manner always. Ensure the charities reputation remains intact.

Providing support, advice and signposting to individuals and their families impacted by brain injury. Engage directly in assessment, good record keeping, practical support and community visits.

MAIN CENTRE RESPONSIBILITIES



To assist in the development of service users' individual and group programmes, helping them to relearn old skills which have been lost as result of a brain injury, or acquire new skills to help minimise the impact of the injury.

o Develop, plan and deliver a wide variety of groups which have been identified as beneficial to a small group of members (Max 10 people) with specific needs.

o Deliver 1:1 session, adhering to specific guidance and agreed goals following assessment by a member of the multidisciplinary team.

o Deliver holistic care ensuring relationships are developed with the service user and those directly involved in their care

o Attend keyworker meetings, complete risk assessments and ensure all documentation is completed and kept up to date

To develop a knowledge and understanding of service users' needs and aspirations to enable them to effectively communicate their choices and intentions. Similarly enabling service users to understand and communicate with others

o Enable service users to identify and work towards individual goals

o Work alongside the MDT to identify realistic goals and help breakdown safe ways of working towards these goals

o Assist service users to express themselves in the centre, home and community settings where appropriate

o Assist service users to understand the needs of others where appropriate

Accompany service users on activities and actively participate as required and directed by the line manager, ensuring that service users get to and from activities safely and promptly

o Assist in completing and updating risk assessments

o Observe and report any concerns to your line manager

o Ensure you always maintain professional boundaries and safeguard service users

To act as key worker and advocate for certain designated service users, liaising closely with other members of staff.

o Record keyworker updates in written or online files

o Attend keyworker meetings

o Report concerns immediately to your line manager

o Ensure you are up to date with all policies and procedures

OTHER DUTIES



Work as a member of the team, contributing to the team ethos and supporting service users and colleagues appropriately

To maintain a safe environment at the rehabilitation centre.

To complete written and online records as necessary.

To attend, participate and contribute to, staff meetings, reviews, person focused meetings, training and supervision sessions as requested. To complete an annual online programme of training.

Identify specific or desired training needs in supervision sessions / appraisal to aid personal development

To be aware of the need for confidentiality, ensuring that information regarding service users is only discussed with the appropriate people.

Participate in team fundraising days

Foster good relationships with volunteers.

GENERAL



Actively participate, where appropriate, in conferences, seminars and external meetings in order to promote the work of the charity and the interests of adults with acquired brain injury.

Be aware of all policies and procedures in place at the charity

During the course of your work the job holder will conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times, acting as a role model to service users, colleagues, students and volunteers, contributing to the delivery of quality services

Undertake any reasonable duties for the charity as required by your supervisor.

The job holder will be subject to a Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure check.

QUALIFICATIONS



Desired - previous experience of working with people with brain injuries or hidden disabilities, NVQ 1- 2 care/rehabilitation or equivalent - but other skills, qualifications, experiences etc. will be considered.
