The post holder is a recognized expert in the specialty, responsible for scanning a variety of specialist vascular ultrasounds and reporting on these.
This includes ensuring consistency of medical imaging quality, accurate informative report writing and maintaining high standards of patient care to the agreed departmental protocols.
They are responsible for the provision of specialist education and training for other staff and students and responsible for implementing a clearly defined integrated approach to patient care encompassing new procedures and evidence based care. Required to undertake research and lead clinical audits.

The post requires receiving and assimilating a range of complex facts, written and verbal, from the referrer, colleagues and patients
Good communication skills are necessary to inform patients and sometimes their relatives about the investigation, the process of the scan, and implications of the results and follow up procedure
Written and verbal reports are made to Consultants, doctors, nurses and multi-disciplinary teams
Communication with Radiologists, team members, nurses, porters and ward staff to ensure effective service delivery
To maintain a high level of personal expertise and continual professional development.

Policy and Service Development
Participate in audit and new service developments
Carry out audit and provide advice based on skill level and experience within specified areas of work
Contribute where possible to service developments that have led to benefits to the Trust and/or patient care. This may be evidenced in the form of financial savings, significant throughput for the department or the provision of new services.
Financial and Physical Resources
Maintain agreed stock levels of consumables used in the department. Report and follow up the status of equipment failures, incident reports and keep ultrasound manager apprised of the situation.
Staff Management
Be active in teaching, lecturing and presentation of case studies
Participate in the training of medical staff, radiology and other healthcare professionals, when required
Participate in the clinical supervision and training of vascular trainees
Maintain a CPD portfolio
Access the internet and Trust internet to access relevant information for personal training and development
Regularly attend study days, meetings and clinical meetings

Maintain Radiology Information System eg. Soliton for patient registration, appointment booking and examination reports
