The basis of the Reflections Training Division's quality system is a well-established process of review of all staged in the learning process and planning cycle. Learners, employers, and Reflections teams are encouraged to play an active role in the review process and their views help to formulate Reflections Training Academy's plans for improvement.

Performance indicators demonstrate that the Training Division's learning is meeting the needs of the learners.

Job Purpose:



To manage and support the continuous improvements with the learners learning experience, through the delivery of a range of programmes including the design and delivery of high quality teaching and learning to ensure learners achieve their maximum potential together with learning outcomes.

Provide and promote the high quality of barbering standards to work towards the Academy's targets set annually and meeting the learners expectation of grade through their checkpoint and EPA process.

A high priority is given to the creation of effective working relationships within the Training Academy. Tutor/Assessors will be expected to work with others in a supportive and co-operative manner and to work flexibly and with a high degree of professionalism and technical competence in delivering their duties and responsibilities. To gain high levels of learner satisfaction through learner feedback etc.

To adhere to, and to fully support/demonstrate the Reflections Training Academy Company "values" at all times.

To promote and safeguard the welfare of learners that are responsible for, or comes into contact with at all times.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:



The principal role and responsibilities of a Tutor/Assessor are outlined below. These provide a guide to the major areas of responsibility. However, as the Reflections Training Academy business develops, the Tutor/Assessor role and responsibilities will vary and therefore the job description should be seen as a guide and not as a definitive statement.

The Delivery of Teaching and Learning



To ensure the Academy is fully prepared with all resources, equipment and the model allocation is adequate for the days training needs for the learner. The appropriate room is set up in readiness for training and delivery in meeting Academy's standardisation.

To deliver a high level of practical and theory barbering sessions NVQ level 2 and 3 and functional skills up to level 2 criteria as specified by the Director/ Line Manager.

At all times to create a stimulating and energising learning environment for the learner ensuring that learning is taking place; to deliver initial assessment on induction and agree learners starting point of their individual learning plan and set targets to review at regular intervals ensuring learners are on track with targets set and meeting their aspirations and goals.

Prepare and maintain learning materials to develop where appropriate and set/appraise assignments that are directly related to the teaching following Academy's current procedures in engaging learners encouraging creativity and motivation.

Prepare session/lesson plans utilising a variety of teaching/training accordingly.

Use effective materials and appropriate resources, at a pace and level which meet the learners' needs.

Use learning materials which are free from stereotyping and present positive images in relation to race, gender and disability etc.

Provide effective learning support, giving learners opportunities to develop and practice their skills within the Salon placement and gaining their required work place developments (OTJHs).

Establish realistic learning objectives which meet individual and group needs.

Check regularly that teaching/training is meeting learners' needs and that effective learning is taking place; modify session/lesson plans and teaching/training delivery accordingly.

To prepare and plan the model appointments in advance and then allocate suitable models via the model request policy.

Work with others to monitor, evaluate and improve the effectiveness of learning sessions, including the use of lesson observations.

To monitor and improve where required learners attendance and punctuality in line with the Academy policy

As part of your personal development in your career in delivering training to learners, you will undertake training that will enhance your training knowledge and skills within hairdressing and/or barbering through internal/external courses where relevant

Demonstrate an understanding of learning theory.

When delivering training or assessing, if the job holder does no hold the relevant qualification, therefore whilst in development, shadowing of assessment decisions is necessary and counter signing documentation on behalf of the learner.

Work with Skills Support Tutor to support learners with learning difficulties and facilitate integration within the teaching and learning environment.

Encourage learners to take responsibility for their own learning/development encouraging independent learning and ownership of eportfolio.

Deal promptly and effectively with inappropriate behaviour/use a variety of classroom management techniques.

To monitor and report via Myconcern any learner safeguarding or wellbeing concerns

Incorporate Safeguarding, Prevent and Health & Safety of learners within the teaching and learning environment.

To plan and deliver learner Checkpoints as scheduled and in preparing learners for their EPA. To ensure learners expectations are being met.

To log and record all learner sessions through the eportfolio

To liaise with employers against the learners performance and progress on programme/standard

Set, mark, and invigilate examinations as appropriate following all areas of code of conduct.

Tutors to ensure all training rooms are clean and tidy on exiting, all practical environments to follow the cleaning regime in place.

To follow Academy lunch and break policy for learners. To ensure learners are always punctual.

Assess/Monitor the Outcome of Learning and Learners' Progress/Achievements:



Adopt appropriate strategies in line with Academy procedures to assess learning and achievement to meet Academy's requirements over the annual targets set, and working towards meeting and following the OFSTED EIF.

Daily to monitor the learner register and record absenteeism for whatever reason and liaise over any situation with the Administration team, ensuring continuity of the learners attendance and maintaining accurate current learner profiles. To support and work alongside set targets over learner attendance and in following the policy

To monitor and view all learners' Individual Learning Plans and discuss on a one to one basis, the training/action plan and assessment schedule.

Learner reviews to be carried out to ensure that these are challenging for the learner and continued learning and progress is being made. To monitor learners timely progress and achievements. All reviews to be monitored by the tutor, relevant documentation to be viewed actioned following the Academy Policy/procedures.
