Are you passionate about arts, architecture, and sustainable transformation? The Barbican Centre is recruiting up to three external members for its Renewal Advisory Working Group. You'll help shape the future of one of London's most iconic cultural destinations, providing strategic advice and creative challenge to a major programme of investment and renewal.
We're looking for individuals with expertise in complex refurbishment, capital procurement, architecture and design (with a focus on sustainability), arts management, or international experience. You'll embody our values, daring, inclusive, sustainable, connected, and joyful, and help ensure the Barbican remains a welcoming, world-class centre for generations to come.
The Barbican Centre is embarking on a major Renewal Programme to upgrade and restore its iconic Grade II listed site, ensuring it remains inclusive, sustainable, and relevant for future generations. The Barbican Renewal Advisory Working Group (BRWG) is being established to provide strategic support, challenge, and guidance to the programme's Senior Responsible Officers and Board.
Successful Candidate Profile
We are seeking up to three external members who demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following areas:
Complex refurbishment programmes
Capital procurement
Architecture and design (with a focus on sustainability)
Arts and communications management
International perspective and experience

Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic advice and challenge to the Senior Responsible Officers
Advise on significant option development and key policy choices
Oversee options analysis for major programme elements
Monitor risks, budget, and progress against milestones
Advocate for accessibility, sustainability, and audience/user experience
Act as an ambassador for the Barbican Renewal Programme
Time Commitment
Four-year term (aligned with the delivery term of Renewal), with annual review.
Quarterly meetings (or as required).
Voluntary, non-remunerated position.
