Barista All Rounder Role Description



Department: Front of House (FOH)

Reports to: House Manager

Role Overview



The Barista is a dynamic role responsible for creating a welcoming atmosphere for customers, delivering exceptional customer service, and preparing high-quality beverages and food items. This role requires multitasking between FOH responsibilities (e.g. serving, maintaining cleanliness, and handling payments) and barista duties (e.g. brewing coffee, creating latte art and other beverages). This role will also require you to help with kitchen duties when needed.

Key Responsibilities



1. Front of House (FOH) Duties:

Greet customers warmly and create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Assist customers with menu selections, including answering questions and making recommendations. Take orders accurately using the POS system. Serve food and beverages promptly and professionally. Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the customer floor, including tables, counters, and service areas. Address customer concerns or complaints with professionalism, escalating issues to management when necessary. Support the team in setting up and closing the cafe, including cleaning duties.
2. Barista Duties:

Prepare and serve a variety of beverages, including coffee, tea, and specialty drinks, according to standard recipes. Operate and maintain espresso machines, grinders, and other equipment. Monitor coffee and milk freshness, quality, and storage to ensure optimal taste and safety. Follow proper hygiene and food safety practices at all times. Stock and replenish supplies, such as coffee beans, milk, syrups, and other ingredients. Stay updated on menu offerings, seasonal specials, and promotions.
3. Kitchen Duties:

Assist in the preparation of ingredients, such as chopping, marinating, or portioning, as needed. Maintain a clean and organised workstation, including tools, equipment, and surfaces. Adhere to food safety and hygiene standards to prevent cross-contamination and ensure customer safety. Maintain a clean kitchen environment by participating in regular cleaning schedules and deep cleaning tasks. Work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure timely preparation and delivery of meals. Communicate effectively with FOH staff to handle special requests or resolve issues promptly.

Customer Service Excellence: Maintain a professional and positive attitude with customers at all times.

Barista Skills: Familiarity with coffee brewing methods, milk steaming techniques, and latte art is required.

Communication: Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with customers and team members.

Organisation: Keep the customer floor and workstation clean, organised, and fully stocked.

Multitasking: Handle multiple tasks efficiently during peak hours while maintaining accuracy and quality.

Teamwork: Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure smooth operations and outstanding service.

Requirements



Previous experience in a cafe or customer service role is mandatory (training will be provided). Basic knowledge of coffee preparation and customer service principles. Trained in latte art and ability to produce consistent designs. Certified in Food Allergy and Intolerance. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Availability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays. Physical ability to stand for long periods.

Customer review scores and feedback. Supervisory observations and feedback. Accuracy, speed and quality in taking and preparing orders. Consistent and adequate completion of all daily tasks. Cleanliness and organisation of the cafe and workstations. Contribution to a positive team dynamic and atmosphere. Adherence to company, health and safety policies and procedures.
Job Type: Part-time

Pay: 12.21 per hour

Expected hours: 6 - 18 per week
