Overview

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic ad-hoc Barista/General Assistant to work in our busy cafe. The ideal candidate will be flexible and happy to work ad-hoc variable hours as a barista cum cafe assistant. This position requires a mix of barista/ customer service skills and an element of food preparation with a knowledge and a commitment to food safety standards and a love of good service.

Responsibilities

Craft consistently great barista coffees and teas. Serve customers and use the till to record all sales. Set out and maintain the cafe counter to an agreed standard with essential ticketing and menus in place. Assist in food preparation and cooking - as required - under the guidance of the Chef Manager/Relief Manager. Clear tables and wash up/load and unload dishwasher of all crockery, glass and cutlery. Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, store room and cafe areas. Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and hygiene standards. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chef Manager.

Requirements

Barista skills are essential, as this will be a key part of the role. Previous experience in a cafe, restaurant or kitchen environment is preferred. Basic culinary skills with an understanding of food safety practices would be an advantage. Good communication skills and a team-oriented attitude. Basic maths skills for handling orders and inventory tasks. A willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic workplace.
