Somerset State Basketball Coaching Centre is a leading grassroots programme in Somerset with numerous Coaching Centres, committed to developing young athletes both on and off the court. With a strong focus on coaching excellence, player welfare, and structured development, we're looking for an experienced and passionate Head Coach to join and lead our team in Langport.
The Role
We are seeking a reliable and energetic Head Coach to lead our Tuesday evening sessions and guide our players in line with the Somerset State coaching curriculum. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about basketball and youth development to take on a leadership role within our established programme.
Responsibilities:
Deliver high-quality coaching sessions in line with the Somerset State curriculum
Attend fixtures and support teams during scheduled games
Set up and pack down coaching equipment before and after each session
Ensure a safe and supportive environment, upholding the highest standards of welfare and safeguarding
Work closely with and report to the Head of Basketball
Act as a role model for players, promoting teamwork, discipline, and respect
Requirements:
Prior coaching experience, ideally in youth basketball
Coaching qualifications (Level 1 or Level 2 (above desirable)
Current DBS check or willingness to obtain one
Current Safeguarding Children Certification
Commitment to player welfare and safeguarding
Ability to work independently and follow structured coaching plans
Strong communication and leadership skills
