About the role:

You will be leading the BDM team who support the London Energy & Infrastructure practice and certain of the global sectors (Energy, Infrastructure and Chemicals). The lawyers work across the full industry spectrum including energy transition, renewables, nuclear, oil and gas and infrastructure.

This role, in addition to leading the wider BDM team, will have primary responsibility for (i) leading on the development of the global Infrastructure sector, liaising with sector leaders and partners from across the firm, acting as an ambassador for cross-selling, intelligence sharing, identification of new opportunities and winning new business; (ii) ensuring regular communication and coordination with the BDM manager in the corporate practice covering the TMBS sector; (iii) assisting corporate partners with targeting and pitching relating to energy and infrastructure clients and opportunities and (iv) working closely with the BDM team in the Financial Sponsors practice where it relates to energy and infrastructure clients and opportunities.

This is a broad product role as the lawyers cover product areas including project finance, refinancing, M&A, construction and regulatory issues for a wide range of clients including governments, sponsors, contractors, financial institutions (banks, ECAs) and financial investors. The team are regularly ranked as the No1 firm for renewables work and advise on some of the biggest and most strategic mandates in the energy and infrastructure sectors globally.

This role will involve the line management and mentoring of a junior manager and also two advisors.

Your main responsibilities will include:

General Business Development responsibility

  • Support and mentor the junior manager with leading the BDM function for the London Energy & Infrastructure practice.
  • Be the point of contact for all Corporate Division queries and requests in relation to energy and infrastructure, including pitch requests and responsible for the effective, timely and accurate delivery of materials, information and relevant data.
  • Maintain a strong working relationship and regular communications with other members of the BDM function, in particular those covering the TMBS sector and Financial Sponsors. Work closely with those BDM team members to ensure consistency of offering across energy and infrastructure opportunities, cross marketing, messaging and materials.
  • Ensure that partners across all kept up to date with opportunities and information.
  • Guide and mentor the team on best practice, efficiencies and problem solving. Be the first point of contact for the resolution of issues.
  • Support initiatives relating to client targeting, product specific business development and profile raising including the use of social media and PR Management of social media channels (eg LinkedIn) to raise visibility of Linklaters achievements in the energy and infrastructure space. Liaison with the PR team to ensure external communication of messaging and opportunities for press commentary are being sought and ensure the MBD team are sharing opportunities for media releases.
Infrastructure sector responsibility
  • Key point of contact globally for sector and client related enquiries.
  • Attendance and participation in regular global sector team meetings.
  • Pro-active business development and marketing activity aligned to sector/client plan objectives, identifying opportunities, driving effective cross-selling, new business introductions, exploring potential new work streams and protecting existing relationships.
  • Support MRPs by playing the lead Client Relationship Management role with a number of prioritised clients within the sectors, including the delivery of regular client reporting. For other prioritised sector clients play an oversight role supporting MRPs and marketing colleagues as required.
  • Provide tools to enable lawyers to pursue new business leads and to share market developments with clients \xe2\x80\x93 including the maintenance of asset pipelines across energy. Develop a communications plan for dissemination.
  • Work with global colleagues to ensure that capabilities are appropriate for global / regional use and to ensure globalisation of the infrastructure and processes to ensure consistent documents, messaging, league table submissions, pitch logging, credential gathering etc.
  • Package, promote and maintain the firm\xe2\x80\x99s expertise in the sector across products and assets, providing the marketing collateral necessary (credentials documents, pitches, thought leadership etc) to cross sell our expertise to partners internally and to clients externally.
  • Responsible for implementing the Client Insights Programme across priority clients.
  • Responsible for communicating specific trends and relevant hot topics.
  • Maintaining asset trackers and deal pipelines.
  • Proactively look for profile raising opportunities for example: conference speaking slots and sponsorships; thought leadership reports, client roundtable discussions and seminars; PR opportunities; memberships of trade bodies.
We are ideally looking for someone who has:
  • Previous BD & marketing experience of at least 6 years in professional services.
  • Law firm experience and at least 3 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience as a manager including leading a team.
  • Experience in pitching and creating client documents to tight deadlines with high attention to detail.
  • Experience in CRM for key clients.
  • Understanding of a partnership environment.
  • Team player with understanding of high performing professional services environment.
This role is based at the Linklaters London office with a hybrid working model available.
