Job Summary

The Befriender plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for adults with learning disabilities. This position involves providing companionship and support to clients, particularly those living with a learning disability. The Befriender will engage in meaningful conversations, assist with activities, and help clients maintain their independence while fostering a sense of belonging within the community. We are a registered charity and this job starts at 3 hours per week with one client, these hours can be built up as we get more referrals from social services.

Responsibilities

Establish and maintain a trusting relationship with clients through regular visits and communication. Engage clients in conversation and activities that promote mental stimulation and emotional well-being. Provide companionship to individuals, ensuring they feel valued and supported. Assist clients with basic IT needs, such as using devices for communication or accessing online resources. Monitor and report any changes in the client's condition or behaviour to appropriate staff members. Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of clients at all times. Participate in training sessions to enhance skills related to dementia care and effective communication strategies.

Requirements

Previous experience or training in working with adults with learnong disabilities is highly desirable. . Basic IT skills to assist clents. A compassionate nature with a genuine desire to help others is crucial for this role. Ability to work independently, demonstrating flexibility and reliability. A commitment to ongoing personal development and training in relevant areas of care is encouraged.
