Behaviour & Learning Support Assistant

We are a small (25 students) Independent School offering full-time provision for young people (age range 11-15 years) who have been excluded from mainstream school or are have otherwise fallen out of the education system. Consequently, our students may exhibit a wide spectrum of behavioural , emotional and academic difficulties, which can be both challenging and rewarding to manage. Our aim at Rowan Education is to successfully address such barriers to learning with effective therapeutic, pastoral and academic support, improve school attendance and engagement and set each young person who comes through our doors back on a path to success in childhood, adolescence and adulthood.

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Behaviour & Learning Support Assistant (BALSA) located in Scunthorpe. You will be required to collaborate with our small team of teachers and other staff members and external professionals to support our students and provide appropriate behavioural and academic input.

Qualifications, Attributes and Skills

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a team and also to use their own initiative. Experience working in a school setting providing behavioural and/or learning support is desirable but not required. Experience working with young people with a range of disabilities including autism, ADHD, and emotional and behavioural difficulties would be preferred but is not essential. A positive and patient demeanour, with the ability to de-escalate challenging situations. Strong organisational and record-keeping skills. A willingness to learn and grow professionally.
