An opportunity has arisen to recruit a BESS Quantitative Analyst.



EPUKI is constructing a 700MWh (350MW) grid-scale battery at Eggborough with commercial operations expected in late 2026, and owns 50% (via a JV with Total) of an operational 50MW battery at West Burton B (WBB). The company is currently establishing the team and defining its trading approach to support day one operations in late 2026.



The role will be based in our London office.
Key Responsibilities


Reporting to the BESS Commercial Lead and working with the Trading Manager, the successful candidate will have responsibility for, but not limited to:Working with the BESS Commercial Lead and Trading Manager to identify the most appropriate route to market for the batteries eg third party optimiser, hybrid, third party software, inhouse. Supporting the selection, onboarding and ongoing performance assessment of third-party providers (e.g. optimisers, route-to-market and data providers). Contributing to the build out of automated trading solutions for BESS and, where relevant, the wider EPUKI portfolio. Designing, delivering and supporting operational and decision support tools used by the 24/7 trading team. Developing and maintaining probabilistic forecasts for BESS relevant markets (DC/DM/DR) and FR tenders. Formulating and back-testing optimisation strategies and bidding recommendations for day-ahead auctions and intraday markets (EPEX M7 and cash-out). Supporting the deployment of intraday (EPEX M7) and NIV-chasing strategies. Producing clear insights and analysis on key BESS markets (DC/DR/DM, BM, FR), including supply-demand drivers and rule changes. Quantifying trading performance versus peer generators and counterfactuals; supporting the Finance team in delivering P&L attribution and KPI reporting. Modelling physical asset behaviour (degradation, lifecycle and round-trip efficiency, SoC/SoH) and reconciling models against telemetry. Providing strategic insight into future market developments and their commercial implications for EPUKI. Acting as project lead for selected initiatives - scoping, resourcing and on-time delivery and communicating progress to stakeholders. Help identify and deliver strategic priorities that improve performance, grow profit and manage risk across the portfolio. Background


Proven experience in developing process automation and custom quantitative tools, forecasts, and trading applications--ideally within the battery sector. Background in the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) industry, preferably with UK market exposure. Demonstrates a meticulous and detail-oriented approach to ensure algorithms, systems, and tools function accurately and deliver profitable outcomes. Skilled in Python and other programming languages, capable of writing production-grade code and/or with a solid foundation in software development. Confident working with large datasets and adept at extracting meaningful insights.

Qualifications


Holds a degree (or equivalent qualification) in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Science, Quantitative Finance, Econometrics, or a related discipline.
