Avantor is looking for a science-savvy and flexible

Biobank Liaison Scientist

to join our team based in

Cambridge, UK

. In this position, you'll assist in the acquisition and utilisation of human biological samples (HBS), ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and contributing to the development of research initiatives. You'll also support histology-related tasks such as sectioning and staining, and help maintain laboratory areas.

Your time will be divided between computer-based tasks (60% of your time) and laboratory work (40% of your time).


This role will be a full-time, temporary (12 months) position based in a brand-new facility at the customer site - The Discovery Centre, Bio-Medical Campus in Cambridge. Monday - Friday, 9:00 - 17:00

The team




You'll join a close-knit team of five Biobank Scientists. The team is processing, registering, and re-labelling incoming human tissue samples and making sure they are available for Scientists. You'll belong to our business department, Lab and Production Services, which supports leading pharmaceutical companies and laboratories all over the world, in Research and Development within the Life Sciences industry.

What we're looking for



Education:

A Bachelor's degree in a science-related discipline, or equivalent experience, is preferred

Experience:

Prior experience in Biobanking or working with human biological samples Experience with histology techniques such as microtomy and staining Familiarity with various IT solutions, including proficiency in Excel for data transformation and analysis. Capacity to comprehend Information Management Systems (LIMS) and databases (training provided) Understanding and knowledge of compliance with global standards and regulations, adhering to defined SOPs within a Good Clinical Practice (GCP) environment Excellent interpersonal and customer communication skills, working within a team

Receiving and registering Human Biological Samples and ensuring all samples are traceable in our systems Maintaining the inventory of Human Biological Samples in accordance with Good Clinical Practice, providing data manifests and sample labelling Performing sectioning and staining of samples and contributing to histology lab maintenance Tracking all work-in-progress using specialised informatics systems and databases Responding to internal and external customer queries Monitoring compliance and following up on key dates (e.g. end of check-out period for samples)
