We are looking for a proactive and hard-working engineering student to join Amber Therapeutics for a 12-16-week internship in summer 2026. This will be a full-time role based at our custom-built facility in Harwell, Oxfordshire. Amber is a pioneering neuromodulation company dedicated to transforming the lives of patients through advanced medical technology. We specialize in the development of cutting-edge active implantable medical devices.

The Role




An exciting opportunity to gain biomedical engineering experience by supporting on a range of engineering activities related to the development of medical technologies. This role involves assisting with data analysis, prototype and system testing, and contributing to the preparation and organisation of technical documentation used during medical device development. This internship provides a broad exposure to engineering workflows whilst developing practical skills in a regulated product development environment.

Key Responsibilities:



Support the processing, review and interpretation of engineering and test datasets, using tools such as Python or MATLAB. Contribute to system-level testing, including integration tests, analysis of test outputs and the creation of clear, traceable documentation. Maintain and organise technical artefacts from test records to user-facing materials, ensuring they're accurate, version-controlled and easy to access. Assist in preparing materials for design verification, usability and human-factors reviews, along with wider systems-engineering activities. Work alongside engineers and scientists across hardware, software and research teams to keep projects moving smoothly. Keep structured, high-quality records of work in line with internal quality and compliance expectations. Take part in team discussions, design reviews and problem-solving sessions, sharing observations and supporting documentation needs.

Skills & Experience



Essential



Currently enrolled in a degree programme in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering/scientific discipline. Interest in medical device development, biomedical technologies, or engineering for healthcare. Basic experience with programming or data-analysis tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB). Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, well-organised work. Ability to follow structured documentation practices and maintain clear records.

Desirable



Exposure to biomedical data, physiological signals, or engineering test workflows through coursework or previous projects. Awareness of medical device development processes or regulated environments. Familiarity with systems engineering concepts or usability/human-factors considerations. Experience collaborating in technical project teams.


This position is ideal for an enthusiastic engineering student with a passion for healthcare or medical technology looking to gain valuable industry experience. With a high level of personal responsibility & accountability, you will be a strong communicator to convey technical information with clarity and precision. You should have the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, balancing independent contributions with teamwork to help to deliver innovative solutions in a dynamic, cross-disciplinary setting.
