Portland Marina



One of the largest marinas in the boatfolk group, Portland marina is a true one-stop-shop for boaters with wet berthing, dry stack, fuel berth and fully serviced yard. We strive to meet our customer's every need with our boatcare repair and maintenance team and boatpoint brokerage for boat sales. The marina is home to the 'Salt' restaurant, a venue with a vibrant atmosphere. Portland marina is the perfect place to quench your thirst at the end of a long day on the water! With a warm and welcoming crew and a vibrant boating community, we bring together boaters from all walks of life.

Our backdrop is the historic Portland Harbour, once an important naval base and the home of Team GB's Olympic sailors, with views out over the Purbeck hills and UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast. The perfect launch point for seafaring adventures big and small.

About the role



The role of a boatcare Manager is to proactively oversee all boatcare operations including the maintenance, insurance works, refit and repair of vessels. You will ensure that health & safety is at the forefront of all day-to-day operations, ensuring strict compliance to the company health and safety policy and standard operating procedures. You will maximise boatcare sales and profitability, through the optimisation and planned maintenance of company plant and machinery, attention to marketing plans and the delivery of high standards of customer care and service with control of costs and engineering hours. You will be responsible for training and mentoring staff to achieve their full potential and to ensure exemplary care and service is provided to all customers.

Key responsibilities



You will ensure that health & safety is at the forefront of all day-to-day operations; actively monitoring adherence to the company policy by all using site, together with maintaining visible environmental compliance. To support all company activities with a view of developing a sustainable and profitable business. This to include delivering chargeable hours as a Player Manager. To direct all activities within the boatcare department ensuring that the Boatcare Operatives are gainfully employed delivering a high-quality service to customers. To manage all service and repair work ensuring that appropriately skilled staff are deployed to each and every job as required. To liaise with customers preparing invoices, reports and statements, ensuring that all tasks are correctly logged and charged for as per company policy. Build relationships with brand partners for parts and servicing. To assist in correctly applying the company's credit control procedures. To identify any training and development needs of those under your direct control, ensuring that all Boatcare Operatives have the competencies required and are aware of the latest technical bulletins / service advice in order to fulfil their roles. Regular communication with the Boatcare Service Coordinator and Boatcare Operatives to ensure seamless integration of lifting and boatcare, early resolution of problems and accurate, timely liaison with customers, leading to a high level of customer satisfaction. To find positive solutions to customer complaints. To ensure that the boatyard, workshops and associated public areas are clean, tidy, well maintained and safe at all times. To ensure planned inspections and maintenance of the company plant and machinery, organising remedial works when necessary. Timely investigation of any incidents or accidents, determining any actions required to prevent reoccurrence, reporting to the Senior Management Team. To ensure that security is maintained throughout the site so that customer property and equipment is both safe and secure whilst in our care. From time to time you may be asked to help with other company functions reasonably requested by the General Manager.

Skills & Experience



Health and safety awareness and the ability to follow and ensure strict compliance by all employees to the company health and safety policy and safe operating procedures. Self-motivated, able to work on own initiative, both individually and as part of a team. A friendly and supportive team player with a positive mindset, 'can do' and flexible approach. Excellent people skills and the ability to be polite, engaged and professional under all circumstances. Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills. Physical fitness is an essential aspect to the role, as this is necessary for moving and blocking off boats, afloat and ashore.?Able to lift a minimum of 25kg (with proper manual handling procedures) and able to work outside, for the full working day even in inclement weather. Ability to swim essential. Good decision making and problem-solving ability, sometimes under pressure, with ability to proactively plan and prioritise workload. You must be confident using computers and with training able to use our business software packages, used daily for administration and customer communication. The ideal candidate should have minimum 5 years of experience in the yacht maintenance sector focused on yachts up to around 50 ft. They should be familiar with servicing and routine maintenance, fault finding and fixing on existing onboard systems and fitting of new or upgraded systems including electrical and plumbing. An understanding of different boats and their manoeuvring characteristics. With training the ability to handle and tow boats competently and safely.
